Hey guys, so I've been trying to improve my metal rhythm skills and am having trouble with the fast down picking sections of Master of Puppets and creeping death. I find my picking hand becomes physically tired out even before the riff changes. I like to chug pretty hard on the low E string so that could be a factor. What can I do? I can record myself playing the riffs as I have a decent webcam but just don't know what software to use with it to record.

Well playing fast is more a by-product of good and efficient control over tension and motion.
For instance, if your right hand thumb is going crazy white you are probably holding your pick with excessive tension. And that will get you tired pretty fast.

Stamina wise, you just gotto to slow down the bpm and desenvolve it over time. Don't expect to be able to do things over night. tongue.gif
And be relax, dont forgot to breathe biggrin.gif

Thanks for that smile.gif The pain happens more in the wrist which leads me to think it could be from the deep chugging?

Anytime you have actual pain, STOP PLAYING!! you can permanently damage yourself. Carpal Tunnel syndrome/Repetitive stress injury is quite common among musicians and I've had it and you don't want it sad.gif Quick google will scare the crap out of ya. Some folks never play again, some have surgery and pain. Some wise up and quit playing when it hurts smile.gif

If you are having pain doing non stop down strokes at speed, just to alt picking on the chugs til you can slowly push your downstroke speed up with a metronome over time. James Hetfield did not come out of the womb with that ability. He earned it and it took years. Doing it to quick will just cause life long injury. So back off just a pinch smile.gif

Thanks for that smile.gif Yeh I definitely move on to other guitar activities after a few attempts. I feel it is my actual technique as I chug pretty hard and use thick strings. M=
