Ello folks,

Ok, I got a midi controller keyboard. I mainly got it to help with my theory course as I find understanding scales etc easier on a piano keyboard. Also, I'm hoping the Creativity Workshop comes back so I can use it for that smile.gif It's USB powered, I've got it communicating with my PC, but I can't get any sound. I can see things moving on the screen when I press the keys. I'm using Ableton Live 9 Lite for now, hopefully I can get it going in Reaper later on but I don't want to waste too much time setting up as I need to practice my guitar too.

Any ideas?

Thanks folks

Success is not obtained overnight. It comes in instalments; you get a little bit today, a little bit tomorrow until the whole package is given out. The day you procrastinate, you lose that day's success.

In Reaper you'll need to go into your Options>Preferences and add it to the list of MIDI Devices. Most likely have to do that in Ableton as well.
Don't forget that it doesn't contain any sounds itself so you'll have to get a VST Synth for actual noise production!

Yeah thanks Mr Jones

I opened in Albeton and selected grand piano. The meters were moving in Albeton. At one point I managed to get an on-screen keyboard and every time I hit a key the corresponding key was highlighted.

I've had Albeton working with my qwerty keyboard in the past.

Cheers

Gotta be a few ableton guys on here? I"m not one, but I'm sure there are some!! If it's USB, it should just be plug and play. Make sure you plug it directly in to your machine, NOT In to a USB HUB of course, just to remove some variables.

Then, arm the track to record, however you do that in ableton, and select the tone generator. In LOGIC, you have to make a MIDI TRACK and not an ANALOGUE TRACK in order to use keyboard sims on a given track. I"M guessing you knew that though?

Thanks Todd,

I can switch to Reaper, I only used Albeton because it ships with it and is recognised software to use with it so I thought it would be seamless. I am using a USB hub but it is powered.

Everything on the Ableton screen does what it should when I press things. I just need to route the sound to the speaker. I might try Reaper tonight but I don't want to spend hours so this might be a long thing. It will be one of those things, when it gets sorted I'll say, "Is that all I needed to do????". The fix is always quick, it's the diagnostic process that takes the time.

Cheers

Phil
