After reading through one of the books suggested here called Guitar Tone Pursuing the Ultimate Guitar Sound I've haven't gained any ground on capturing the sound I want for this piece. The book itself is very vague and describes only the most broadly iconic historical components of guitar tone. I would recommend it as a read for leisure history of guitar tone but it's not a useful companion in the studio when you need something specific.

The Ultimate Guitar Tone Handbook: A Definitive Guide to Creating and Recording Great Guitar Sounds (Book & DVD) (Alfred's Pro Audio) was the other book recommended and will be the next one I try.

This first book took quite a while to try since it took about 2 months to ship. But I'll be back again after I get the second book and have tried that.

Yeah going to do a mix this week with a new guitar, a true temperament Suhr with high-quality single coil pickups. Going to see if that brings me any closer. Will post that attempt here too.
