Just in case anyone missed it, I wanted to share my new IBBY! It's the best playing guitar I've ever touched. The action is the same at the 24th fret as the 1st fret and it's been sitting in a case for 9 years. It's like "New Old Stock", barely been touched. These are as rare as hens teeth and i've been waiting for one for a long time. I'm very picky and like to get good prices so I didn't pay the $1,000 or so that this guitar usually costs. I managed to get a deal that I could work with. I've already been offered double what I paid but I had to say no. Here she is wink.gif This is a collage from the Ibanez board on FB.

Here is the shot of the higher frets. Notice how low the action is? No buzz. Neck is straight as an arrow.

Here she is in action. I used her for the GABE collab.

Your tone sounded very different to me, less 80's type cutting than usually but bigger/beefyer. Specific to this collab. or simply the new guitars influence? smile.gif also I'm curious on your comments about the pickups as I also use them.

Everything about that guitar is top-notch. It must be a joy to play.

It's the best axe I've ever played. And it's legit smile.gif It was a case queen for years so it's mint condition. I was shocked. The plastic was still on the back place and jcraft logo on the case. The guy just never played it. It's practically brand new and nearly a decade old. It outplays my RG560 by a mile. I never knew it could be so effortless to play a guitar. I find my other ibbys to be a LOT more work now. This one almost plays itself. No wonder it's such a sought after classic by Ibby nut jobs like me smile.gif

I LOVE the pickups in the blue Ibby. They sounds BIG compared to all my other Ibbys which sound more compressed / 80s. Which is fine because those 25 year old ibbys were designed to sound like that. This blue ibby sounds much more open and wide by comparison. I like the pickups a LOT. I was worried they would not have enough gain but I was wrong smile.gif I've never used this pickup set before and WOW I was really impressed at how HUGE they sound compared to my older ibbys. Just so much more open and thick. I'm officially a fan of Dimarzios and I though I liked Duncans smile.gif
Both the neck and bridge have ALNICO 5 magnets which is one of my fave mags. I prefer them to ceramic personally. Here is what the ibby wiki says of the Tone zone.

The Tone Zone is hot enough to qualify as a high-output pickup, but it has a wider dynamic range — hard picking will produce a lot of power, and softer picking will be much cleaner and quieter. It’s got tremendous bass and low-mid response to reinforce the bottom end and make the overall sound bigger.[39

Glad you liked them, as much as I enjoy the output and speed of ceramic, next to alnico they get very in-organic (specially with lower gain.

Its been a long time since I've been using that set, some tips; the tonezone is absurdly sensitive to pickup height, you can get more fullyness or scream depending on its height adjustment. I prefer it to have as much "awwe" sound (famous to dimarzio's, sort of wah like responce) when distorted as possible.

As for air-norton mine is totally modified now but if you want more speed or singlecoil-like attack to it just flip the pickup. Petrucci prefered this and also you'll see marco sfogli, just keep it low enough so it won't attack too much on clean sounds wink.gif

Some folks love ceramic pickups and I used to be a fan myself, but i got over it. To each his own of course, but I"m pretty sold on Alnico mags. Especially in this pickups, they just sound deeper, bigger, more lower mid, less bite, more grunt, great for palm mutes. Just a killer pickup and if you roll back the volume it cleans up nice an even sounds bluesy!!

I've thought about flipping it, but so far I am really digging the stock setup just as is. I am reluctant to get tools any where near this thing for fear I'd scratch her up. I've never had a guitar that looked this new unless I bought it new. I keep this one in the case when not playing and I haven't done that in years.
