Here is where the magic happens: the REC board turns bedroom guitarists into real pros. Remember - it doesn't matter if you fail or pass, as long as you keep posting REC takes you will progress.

The entries will be graded by a number of instructors. After grading, members will be accredited with the appropriate points if they pass, and adjustments will be made to their REC level.
Passing grade is 6 or higher.

Original lesson: Power Metal Rhythm by Lian Gerbino

Second take, Worked on the tone to make it less harsh, vibrato on the first parts, even though it feels kinda awkward still, and tried to keep the hand as relaxed as i could during the 16th note passages.

Hi mate,

I can note improvements regarding the elements that I've marked in your previous take. At first, the timing improvement can be noted just with the first phrases. The fast sections has some room to sound tighter, but you are very close. I also note the tone adjustment which makes your guitar sound more consistent and connected with the backing track and style.

I think that your vibrato is still weak on this one. I'd like to suggest you to do some parallel work on vibrato lessons and/or exercises to be able to do a wider and more aggressive vibrato. The main problem is that you are not doing the motion from your wrist so you can achieve a wide movement to get the right vibrato.

Check out our archive to work on this technique: https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/search/vibrato/

I'll give you a 7 on this one since it's better and getting closer. Keep working!

Hey there again!

That's a great attitude you have there. this take some visible improvements even if we can't say it's already perfect. Fast part is a little more tight but there's a visible feel you walk on the edge of your abilities to contorol the instrument. timming has been partially fixed but you tend to rush things - start each phrase just a little too early/too fast. Have you tried to hit the beats with your foot to boost the feel of song's pulse? Sometimes it's rerlated to rehearsal conditions as well.

Let me point a basic difference between your right hand technique and original video. Your right hand is very tensed. Wrist is totally stiff and you use forearm as a main picking source, while for fast playing it's at least a combo of a few muscles and in 90% it involves wrist rotation. You may have some speed issues because you should review your right hand mechanics. Start from the accents - one per 4 notes. Play the accent stongly but release the strength on other 3 notes. Focus to match accents with main song beats and other notes will fit naturally. That's a great way to boost timing tightness and to manage the strength of your right hand, so you won't feel it's getting tired. Forearm is really not a best choice.

Congrats ont he hard work!

I agree that vibrato needs more work (it always does btw). The biggest problem i can see with it, is that your vibrato motion comes from your fingers - if you look at Lian you will clearly see his arm is doing much of the job.

Being completely relaxed with this kind of fast rhythm requires you to go back at the super slow tempos - and make sure you are able to play for a few minutes without tensing up. That's a clear indication you are ready to increase speed.

You get a slightly higher grade from me this time (6).
