Artificial Harmonics In A Solo Lesson, Request

Aug 5 2007, 06:40 AM	GMC:er Posts: 616 Joined: 25-July 07 From: NY	I've been listening to All That Remains a lot more lately, and while the vocals bother me, the guitar sounds good. The particular thing that interests me is that they incorporate a lot of Artificial Harmonics into their solos, something that sounds great at times. I've noticed that there aren't many solos with Artificial Harmonics in them on the site, but if someone could make a lesson, I, and I'm sure others, would really appreciate it. An example of a solo from All That Remains is attached. It's just the solo to Empty Inside, and I don't know for sure but I don't think there's anything against posting a small clip of the song, especially as an example. Just in case, moderator(s), if you feel this clip should be removed, I'm fine with it, but please leave the post if you can. Aug 5 2007, 09:14 AM	GMC:er Posts: 1.311 Joined: 26-February 07 From: Tennessee , USA	Hey there There is afew lessons on A.H Harmonic's n gmc like i know one that Pavel has in the archieve's.Im with you on what you said about loving the guitar in all that remains but not the singing.Sad to say but there's so much metal that's like that for me.I will love the music but dont want to here that scream non stop from the first song to the last.Dont get me wrong i love that scream or growel in some bands (and have much respect for it) i just dont want to here it non stop with out some singing parts.The heavier the guitar music is the better for me .A good example of what im saying is Killswitch engage.They play heavy and the singing is perfect,you have your screams and straight out singing at the same time.Are you having problems getting the pinch harmonics down or just wanting to here some lessons with them? And yeah, Killswitch Engage is one of my favorite bands for that style exactly. If All That Remains had nonstop singing instead of only in the chorus I'd like them a lot more. Pavel, I understand that it's a matter of personal preference and feeling, but whenever I try to write something and add an Artificial Harmonic in, it just sounds odd. Maybe it's where you are timing the harmonics that sounds odd.If your playing leads try to play a run or scale and end it with a harmonic , see if that helps.Maybe even put together a solo and do a harmonic in the middle hold it for a second and go to something different.I think it's just going to be something you have to work on.Try to find all the music you like where this playing apply's and listen to it ,learn it to get your own spin on it.
