Dude WMP is probably the worst thing to play something. Try VLC player. Its free and can play almost any format.

Pavel I am in awe - very well done! biggrin.gif

I bet you don't have the required codecs to view the vid! It's compressed with XVid if i am not wrong so u need the XVid codec installed! To view it properly! I view it with WMP and have no problems!

Kris: Thanks! You're right - i guess we do have lot's of responded requests here! Both in lessons requests and GMC improvement! Good job!

Pavel! Calm! Down!

laugh.gif

Just kidding, but yes, you guys are doing an awesome job of giving us what we want and need, thats why GMC is the best!

Actually I saw a site earlier today, and I had a look at their pricing model, which is $19.95 per month. It then compared to other things, like in-person lessons, instructional dvds, etc and tried to justify the 19.95.

It was like other sites cost $20-$40 dollars! We only cost 20! Other sites have 1-3 teachers, we have SIX! (I don't know where they got 1-3). New lessons, us: WEEKLY! other sites: sometimes. Teacher interaction: us: yes, video qa! other sites: none.

I seriously laughed so much, because GMC wipes the floor with this site in every category, and then some that aren't mentioned tongue.gif At least twice the amount of teachers (including some who have recorded/released albums = professionals), new lessons pretty much DAILY, so much you can't keep up with it, and awesome interaction. For half the price.

So there, you're doing wonderful stuff Kris smile.gif

Im not sure if im the only one but i don't like this idea. Uless you actually got the perfect angle it woudn't work for the fret board because the string the kinda cover up the other ones and the lower fingers would be very hard to see. It would take a very long time to find the perfect angle and i don't really think its worth it. The way it is now is very easy to follow and i don't see the point in changing.

This is just an addition to what we have already got - I really don't think Pavel will remove the old view.

I didn't read the whole thread. Just noted someone had a codec problem. If you need codecs, get K-Lite Codec Pack. It contains (almost) every single codec you will ever need. Get the standard or full version. The full version includes more codecs (duh) and some encoders too. Both bigger versions include MPlayer Classic which is the best media player available. Small footprint, fast, simple, configurable. Not as overgrown as WMP, not as sluggish and *unfinished* as VLC.

Search for K-Lite Codec Pack or get it here http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Codec_Pack.htm

Nick325. Get VLC player, thats easier and than getting all those codecs for your mediaplayer, just serach google for "VLC mediaplayer"

Pavel I guess the effort will be worth it, Kris mentioned something about it biggrin.gif

Kris For sure this forum is a noturious request responder, no where on the internet ive ever visited a forum where the the staff has been so nice and helpfull to its users.

Most common is that an ordinary forum has an equal ratio of bans/warnings to our ratio of request responses etc, i like it that you dont have to "fear" the staff, and you are not getting ignored no matter how stupid your questions are. This site is great, just wish more of our members would be active in the forums as there is lots to learn from every one on this site it seems

Ok! The lesson is recorded and ready for upload so i hope it will be live by the end of the week! New angles turned out pretty good (recording and video editing took 5 hours straight + 2-3 hours backing tracks and text writing + scale diagrams - so it was a nightmare). I hope you and Kris are gonna like it!

What about a hat like Homer wears in that episode of the simpsons where he gets hired to rat out the quickie mart (cant remember exactly what its called but that sounds like a brothel!). Im sure you could do a couple of lessons before you had to wear a neck brace...

QUOTE (Salivtomte @ Aug 6 2007, 01:47 AM) *
As i was practicing today, something that appealed to me as both an easy and inovative way of improving the video lessons, came to my mind.

I was looking down at my hands while practincing som alternatepicking when i realised that i'd just found the ultimate videoview for video lessons, no matter the content.

Simply adding a camera angle that would show either the freatboard/lefthand(righthandforlefthandedtechersofcourse!), the picking hand or both, shown from the eyes of the teacher!

I think students would benefit more from the videos if such an agnle was added for a couple of reasons:

1. Most naturall, and understandable view

This is the one view that all of us, naturally, are most used watching since this is the angle we are using while practincing, seeing our own hands giggeling around the freatboard, IMO this view makes the teachers playing much easier to compare with ones own playing etc. I dont think i need the explain this one any further, think most of u get the point rolleyes.gif

2 Adding an additional element of techniqual understanding

Yes, wich other view does show the movement and position of the finger most used in guitarplaying, the thumb!(if u can refer to the thumb as a finger). The position of the thumb is, as far as i know one of the most essential substances of a good technique. I think less GMC'ers would risk ending up with various bad habbits that you are in danger of adding to your play without having a correct thumb position.

3 Cause no other videosites offer this view

Wich simply equals more ppl will be interested in becoming GMC members, wich simply equals[$$$$$$$$]!!
Here are 2 samples:

[attachment=1203:attachment]
[attachment=1204:attachment]
Ofcourse i realise that this would make the creating of lesson videos a little harder for the teachers, but that just might would be worth the effort mounting the camera above the guitar, somehow either atached to the instructor or to something right next to him, but it am sure this matter could be worked out some how, i think it might be worth it.

Hope ya'll like my idea, sure somebody else had the idea before me, but i couldnt keep it for myself:D

Good luck with your practicing etc //Salivtomte

Yeah, it's a good idea

I try to incorporate this view in my last lesson, but I cannot have a tripod or something similar so I play the guitar with my right hand (tapping diredtly into the frets) and subjecting the video camera with the left !! XD
