I'm cool with box shapes for a learning period, like pentatonic so one can start open the gates of improvisation/writing solo's.

But after that I agree with Kris, it has to be more about the ear at some point.

I don't really understand, I think my engineering background causes me to look too deeply into it but, I am starting to think that you can do pretty much anything but keep notes from the triad in there and try to get to the root a few times and end on the root and you'll scrape through biggrin.gif
