I've been a youtube "Partner" for many years. You get to split advertisement revenue as a partner. However, unless you have mega millions of views, the money is almost nothing. It's really just about getting better analytics tools to be able to tailor your vids to an audience. Here are some screen shots of my account to give you an idea. Notice how low the pay for the past 12 months is.

Anyone else a youtube partner?

I recall you mentioning somewhere they plan on making the partner program more strict - does this affect current partners or just future partners?

BOTH!!! If you are currently a partner you must have at least 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 hours per year of watch time from viewers. This applies to everyone currently in the program and everyone who wants to get in. Needless to say it's going to kick a LOT of people out of the program. Even the lead singer of Tyr was on his facebook page asking folks to just loop his playlists from his channel so that he doesn't get kicked off the partner program. So if dudes from signed bands with global followings are on the chopping block, you can bet that everyone is a bit worried about their stats smile.gif

They are doing this so that they can charge more for adverts by being able to say that every partner page has at least 1k subs and at least 4k hours of views per year. That ways folks buying ad space feel they are getting more eyeballs smile.gif

Would be interesting to know how much YouTube are making for every 1c you make. Youtube itself doesn't make any overall profit (apparently) so I suppose the argument would be that advertising keeps it going and that paying content creators is a bonus to the fact they are facilitating the publishing of videos for free as well as embedded on other websites for free.

Pretty much wink.gif They let folks post content and host it for free, and they get all their content for free as a result, other than the bits that they now pay for themselves. But that's a fairly recent thing. It was a trade deal for years, you give us something for folks to watch and we will host it for free. Later one, they said they would split ad revenue with certain folks. Now they want the advert folks to know that each ad purchased is going on to a page with LOTS of eyeballs smile.gif
