Yesterday, i went through the "guitar harmonisation". It helped me a lot! great lesson!
So, i found some songs, just to see if the harmonization was flat fith, minor second, perfect fourt, or perfect fifth. What i found out was, that they used neither of those harmonisations they used this:
gtr
B|------------------------8-10-12-|
G|-----------------7-9-11---------|
D|---------7-9-10-----------------|
A|-7-9-10-------------------------|
E|--------------------------------|
Gtr 2
E|---------------------7-8-10-|
B|--------------7-8-10--------|
G|--------5-7-9---------------|
D|-5-7-9----------------------|
A|----------------------------|
E|----------------------------|
*trivium-ember to inferno-solo

they use either 3frets above/below, or 4 frets above/below.
I found out that Metallica,Dream theater, In Flames and Avenged Sevenfold, and i think nearly EVERY heavy metal band who do harmonizations i know use this one.

Can anyone explain me how to use this, becouse i dont know when to use 4up/down or 3up/down?

-Audun

*ups, it kinda looks like i blame Kris for not telling me in the Lesson, thats not the point smile.gif

Hey Audun!

Glad you liked the lesson! This is harmonized in thirds (minor thirds) - which interval you choose to use is a matter of personal preference. Just like no one can tell you which scale to use.

However if you like the way Metallica harmonizations sound - then perhaps harmonizing in thirds is "your thing". smile.gif

The principle of harmonization should be exactly the same as is the lesson though!

edit: OK so I see the harmonisation isn't symetrical - so if we look at the three first notes there are both minor and major thirds.

The easy way to approcah this - is to not play the exact same harmonisation on every note (as presented in the lesson) - but instead look at it as if you are harmonizing with as scale, which has it's starting point a minor third interval above.

I hope I am not cofusing things...
