Quick Licks #31 4 NOTE PER STRING TAPPING WITH TRAVERSE INTRO:FOUR NOTES PER STRING TAPPING!!! This is NOT the standard VanHalen tapping bit. We are going to be using an OPEN STRING here and traversing all the way down and back up the strings. So your MUTING is going to be very very important. If you are not used to striking and pulling off with the first finger, now is your chance! Once you get that, the rest is easy! Just hammer on with the left hand for the rest of the notes. It's the same patter on every string so you can focus on your technique and not hand position. Your muting will be needed with both hands. You will need to mute with the right hand using the palm and the left hand using the fingers. Try to mute any strings that are not being played This is a great workout for your muting and will help you a bunch in other licks that require string traverse with clean mute. *Make sure to watch the vid, don't skip it and just look at the tab, the tab is just where to put your fingers, not the lesson. *NOTE: Keep your mute so that you don't get string noise. Use both hands to mute! *Here is Guitar Pro Tab for Quick Licks 31 31.gp5 ( 2.46K ) Number of downloads: 124 BACKGROUND / COMMENTS This is a stand alone drill/lick. It's meant to be played by itself as it's not really a scale. It's for practicing your tapping and muting using an open string and traverse. BTW: Please let me know if you have any questions about this lick, send me a PM if you like or post here. I'm happy to help! This post has been edited by Todd Simpson: Jun 16 2018, 08:52 PM |

Hello Todd,
Here's another go, there is a weird sound issue for the first couple of strings. It was worse on the previous take see HERE because its not on the soundcloud version without the front and back trails cut off. If you can't use it I'll try again tomorrow. Cheers buddy https://youtu.be/0nEgoG83IwI This post has been edited by Phil66: Jun 13 2018, 09:38 PM -------------------- SEE MY GMC CERTIFICATE “Success is not obtained overnight. By the time you hit 15 seconds, I only hear the TAP from the right hand, not the TAP/PULL OFF. It could be related to the wonky thing going on with your signal. I posted in that thread on some things to try. Basically, start a new project, only use one device for audio (e.g. scarlett in and out to computer) and set sample rate manually in device and project. That should sort it hopefully!
Something is also sapping some of your gain out which may be why I can't hear the pull off with the right hand. The first one is the best take so far, but it could be because of this wonky sound issue. Todd Hello Todd,

Thanks Todd,
That take was done in exactly the same Reaper project as the last one so it is very odd. Same Helix settings too. I also noticed the gain thing. In fact I turned the gain up on the amp in Helix. Hopefully it will be sorted for next time. Only thing different is that's my RG1570 instead of my Strat. Hardest Quick Lick so far Cheers Phil -------------------- SEE MY GMC CERTIFICATE “Success is not obtained overnight. Another attempt mate, I think it will be a long long time before I get complete silence on the unused strings.
Please advise. Cheers https://youtu.be/bo1tWq4Mbmk -------------------- SEE MY GMC CERTIFICATE “Success is not obtained overnight. First, let me say WELL DONE in simply have the stones to attack this lick and make it your own!! You are the ONLY One to even give this lick a try. Granted, when played at speed, this lick is going to sound a pinch intimidating and perhaps throw folks for a bit of a loop. Not so with you! You dove right in and started earning it. Nice!
On to the review. PROGRESS!!! You did a much better job this time not only with the STRIKE/PULL with the first finger on the right hand, but also did a better job on the muting using both hands. This is the tricky bit of this entire thing to be sure. But, it's well worth working on as it's a skill that you will follow around for the rest of your days on this rock as circle the sun. Also, for folks that never quite get this down, that too follows them around!! Being able to mute all the strings, especially on licks where you are not picking, is a crucial skill imho. You've got the mechanical idea behind this one to be sure! Just keep it up and play it at least once per practice session. This lick and that Sweep picking lick would make a great addition to you warm up routine. Don't focus to much on them, just run through them once or twice each as you warm up. Don't give it too much thought. Before you know it, you will realize that you are running both of these licks like a MONSTER!!!! for now, you just... LEVELED UP!!!!! Onward!!Todd Another attempt mate, I think it will be a long long time before I get complete silence on the unused strings.
Please advise. Cheers https://youtu.be/bo1tWq4Mbmk This post has been edited by Todd Simpson: Jun 15 2018, 03:55 AM |
