So, Jason Becker actually uploaded Valley of Fire's backing track specifically to hear others playing over it. I might post my take if I figure out the key and record something nice. For the download, visit Jason's Facebook profile. It's completely free! That's a great way to hype us up even more for the upcoming album
Have fun, because I definitely will! -Adam This post has been edited by Adam M: Nov 22 2018, 10:42 PM

How about a tribute collab on the track, Gabriel?

Umm, is it in B minor? That's the only scale that sounds ok but sometimes the notes I play don't seem to fit the backing track.

How about a tribute collab on the track, Gabriel? It sounds like a good idea! If we have many interested I would do the mix and final video. We can use this thread to provide some takes. Who is in? -------------------- My lessons

You can always use the SCALE GENERATOR to see any scale in any key all up and down the neck! OF course, not every scale will sound correct. If the bit you are playing over is a Minor progression, the Minor scale will work as will the Blues/Pentatonic Scale. You might also try Harmonic Minor. You can get a map of all these with the scale generator to show you the root notes and every note all the way up and down the neck.
It's ok to use a single scale or two for a solo, the trick is to pick the right notes so that the solo sounds good. If it's in a Minor key, most folks will be using the minor scale in whole or in part. Yet each solo will sound different. There are a million ways to carve up a given scale. https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/scalegenerator/ Here is the Minor Scale in B for every fret on the neck. The notes repeat at the 12th fret. Thats a lot of fret positions to choose from! I practice my improvisation skills over this track since it's released. It doesn't sound too professional, as I don't know that many phrases and mechanics but I tried playing B Harmonic Minor over it and sometimes that #7 interval really fits. Is there a place at GMC where I can learn how to abuse that, so I don't use only one scale over the whole tracks?
