Here is where the magic happens: the REC board turns bedroom guitarists into real pros. Remember - it doesn't matter if you fail or pass, as long as you keep posting REC takes you will progress.

The entries will be graded by a number of instructors. After grading, members will be accredited with the appropriate points if they pass, and adjustments will be made to their REC level.
Passing grade is 6 or higher.

Very nice!

At times you are spot on with the timing here, and I think I have further developed my theory about you:

I think you have learned to totally not rely on keeping a steady beat. This works well for you in some cases - ie when it is a slow tempo or a non complex rhythm - or simply when you are super comfortable with backing (for whatever reason: it's a style you dig or you have listened/practiced a lot to it).

However, as soon as you need that steady pulse as a tool - because let's face it tapping the foot with the beat is one of the most important tools a musician has - then you get problems.

In this lesson though you have made a musical performance with nice vibrato - and my main comment here is only to be careful with the faster runs to make sure you hands are synced.

Well done - you get an 8 from me!

Hi again mate!

I'm here to say that I totally agree with Kris comments. As it happened with Maiden's lesson, the main issue here is timing. As this lesson has some faster licks, the timing issues are more notorious here.

You need to isolate the trickier licks and work over metronome for some time, until you feel totally comfortable with them so you don't have to think on technique and put your focus on groove and rhythm.

Breath, close your eyes, follow the groove with your body, feel it. That's the key.

Keep going!

First off WELL FREAKING DONE!!!!!!! This one is not for the feint of heart. It requires a strong grasp of a variety of techniques. I'm very proud to see that some of the stuff we have worked on in Bootcamp has made it's way in to your playing style! Your palm muting is vastly improved from when we began at bootcamp!

Now for the not so good. I agree with the others that you have some timing issues. I know it's tedious to play with a metronome but it's worth it. I'd say try to do a bit of metronome practice every single day until you can hear it in your head and no longer need it. I find it a bit sad that most folks these days have to use the click track in protools in order to stay in time. Players who have developed their internal metronome listen to the band for their timing. This is far superior imho as it results in much less "rigid" soloing. This is a very controversial issue, so forgive me if you are one of the people who uses the click track to record. I do no mean to insult anyone.

Bottom line well done solid 7 from me!!
Todd

Hey there again!

It's great to see you working on so many lessons. Seems like you enjoy lots of stuff at gmc wink.gif

As for your take I have to agree with Kris. I'm afraid you do not spend enough time/focus/practise on just understanding different rhythm valuesand how the flex with the timeline/tempo. Kris have correctly spotted that some tracks you simply dig in without much problems but some other make you get lost between between beats. In music there are moments when we do let ourselfs flow above the timing measures but this spontanious, improvisation situation doesn't change the fact that the 99% rest of the time any kind of musicians need to fit to the measure. Kris probably really got you on this one smile.gif You let yourself start the run and hope that it will somehow end at the moment it shoudl end...but the middle of it...

Knowing much of your other takes I would bet that's the most prioritised issue to be fixed. It takes much from your performance while there are some other things you can play quite well. A rhytmic understanding course it's definitely what you need at the moment.
