Let's expand on our previous Quick Licks using the basic power chord shape. We are going to add a pinky stretch in to it. This is a "Riff" more than a lead lick. Try to pick each note and try to keep a good palm mute. The stretch is so wide that using the first three fingers isn't very practical so try to go with the pinky.

This one was pretty natural for me. It follows a familiar chord progression and there was no picking restrictions. I think I did it all alternate picking with maybe a hammer on or two. I am also used to stretching out my pinky.
Since playing a few of these recent 'quicklicks' I noticed that my left hand was a little weak with hammering. Working it on a couple has definitely improved my strength and made it quicker to get this last one.

It's hard for me to play licks 'out of context' so I played it twice and tweaked the ending both times.

Killer!!! You nailed it and at speed. I was somehow thinking this might be a curve ball but I should have known better. I think you are a serious Metal Player Ken and you don't even realize it. There are connections between jazz and Metal that are becoming more and more apparent to me the more I see you play these chops. All the way back to Chris Poland, (Megadeth, and later Jazz band OHM) I've been an unwitting fan of fusion it seems. smile.gif
I'm glad to hear these are showing you some gaps in your left hand. It's always when I play stuff a bit out of my wheelhouse that I find gaps in my hands that need a bit of help. You have the vibe of this down pat. I think there is a serious Metal player in you busting to get out!!!!
You just..

NICE! I notice that you have worked out the pinky stretch as well! It's great to see how smooth you are playing this riff. This is a very tricky riff. It's got some elements of jazz/fusion as Ken pointed out. It's not quite symmetrical and the picking is very tricky. If you think to much about the picking, it actually makes it harder. You sorta have to let go and let your hands just go for it on order for it to work. I examined my own picking and noticed I was not doing it the same way twice. The most important thing is the vibe. Does it feel a bit like a Judas Priest lick when played. The answer is YES IT DOES!! For something that's not a lead bit, it's a pretty challenging thing to play. Just goes to show, rythm bits can be just as tricky as lead bits. Well played! You just..

Nailed it!!! Look at that reach!!! The spread of your finger reach is impressive. Very well done. This one is built to test the ability of your hand to make a stretch and still keep time. You didn't even break a sweat or show any stress on your face. Looked like it was an easy kill for ya!! Very well played fast and slow. That bit in the middle with the big fret stretch is the hardest part and you killed it!! Well done. You are closing in on the TOP DAWG spot of 117. There have never been two Stars of Honor given out, but you might be the one that breaks that rule!! You just..
