Okay here is the final instalment of the videos about my company, this is feature yours truly and I was very nervous at first, when you see me by my machine, he'd just spontaneously hooked a mic up and started filming, you can see much redness in my face due to embarrassment laugh.gif Something for you lot to take the piss out of tongue.gif

The first machine you see is the one that we have just bought a replacement for at over £40k, bad timing eh?

Some of the voice overdubs by me sound a little slow, I did them at home and it's a different vibe at home.

The other two videos are in THIS thread along with some ancillary ones or they are below in order if you don't want to read the comments in that thread or see the other videos.

This is the most viewed by a long way, it features flames wink.gif

Yeah thats seriously tight spec.s from one piston to the other. I'd probably have some idea if I hadn't watch these but now I'm very impressed about the details.

Very Impressive!! I just realized that you are a "MACHINIST"! At least I think smile.gif Could be the wrong word though. Looks like very gratifying work especially on race day!

It can be worrying on race day, you sit there thinking "did I do that right? did I do this right? did I get the temperatures right when I did the heat treatment?" sometimes all sorts of silly doubts creep in, especially if minor changes have been made and its a race that will decide the world championship.

The big heart stopper is when your rider or driver is in the lead with a lap top go and you start to see puffs of smoke from the exhaust. The real high end stuff isn't designed for long life but for lightness wink.gif I'm always on the edge of my seat when that happens.

Glad you like it Kris, hopefully you also feel like you know me a bit more now wink.gif

It did cross my mind. We could forge them (see the first video) in an aluminium alloy known as 4032 which is 12% silicon so would have a better wear rate than the 2618A which is < 0.8% and use a T6 heat treatment to make them fairly hard. It's just fitting them in, also the forging tool would be about £5k to make that's a lot of picks to just break even biggrin.gif

Well I wouldn't necessarily advocate for selling, just playing. And I know you do that a lot 😅

Just noticed the first public comment, it was a month ago (the bloke that made the video forgot to tell me it had gone live) and from Classic Mini DIY in the USA, he said "Loved this. Learned so much. What a knowledgable gentleman he is, so lucky you guys have someone so smart working with your team."

One of the nicest compliments I've ever had smile.gif

They are lucky to have you Phil! I can imagine race day isn't all fun and games for the folks waiting to see if their work is going to hold up under extreme stress and last just long enough to finish the event. Built for speed not endurance as you mention. Must be stresfull watching that go down if your guy is leading. I can see it, gripping the chair and just hoping a given part doesn't let go. You are meticulous guy so I'd bet on your parts to the distance smile.gif Looks like many folks in racing feel the same way. England gets painted with a bad brush on cars/parts IMHO because of some mis steps from companies who made some not great cars in the 70s. Most folks don't realize how many high end, racing parts are custom made in England and sent all the way around the world and used by just about everyone in high end competitive racing. Even when the race car has a badge from somewhere else, the gear box, pistons, suspension, etc. were probably all made in England and exported.
