Kevin:

Singers divide our breathing in three different parts, according to which part of the lungs we are using...
The first part is the higher part, and you use that breathing when you are waved after running 10 seconds as fast as you can and then you stop (for example). You'll notice your shoulders rise at every inhale. That breathing is short and we can't use it for singing.
Then we have the middle breathing. you use it all the time when you are talking. You can feel it if you put your hands on the ribs to the sides of the body and take a deep breath. You´ll notice that your ribs start to expand. This breathing helps for singing but the lower breathing is the best for singers... you use that breathing when you are sleeping...Your diaphragm helps you to take a deeper breathing. And you can feel it when you take a little rest and if you place a book very weighed under your navel. Try to move that book with your breathing and you'll using the diaphragm!...
Is not easy in the begining.. and is not easy when you have to do that while you are singing. But this is the best excersise for feel the diaphragm..-

If you have more doubts. ask me ok?

Hi Luciana!
My name is Eddie, just to tell you how much I like your voice and your tuning!
Now, I like to sing from time to time, I do it especially
when I get tired practicing scales on my guitar,
and your book advice is great!
I tried that and it really works.
But I also noticed that if I open my mouth a lot
while singing the notes seem to be nicer
and it is easier to have a better colour.
Is it true? Are we supposed to open our mouths wide?
By the way, I'm a HUGE fan of poor Jeff Buckley.
Cheers, Eddie

Hi Eddie!

Yes, That's true! smile.gif
You are opening your resonators, so the color of the voice begin to be nicer. Singing with the grimace of a smile, the sound begin to vibrate into your head, behind your nose and eyes, and it is felt more close to the ears so you can get on pitch easier.
At first you will feel that your movements of your face seems to be exaggerated. But if you do it in front of a mirror you'll notice that your movements are right..

This is the great secret for all the singers! wink.gif Observe them cool.gif

Luciana.-
