A couple months ago I was playing this Ibanez signature model (KIKO10BP) at our local music shop and I really liked it. My wife and son stopped in while I was playing it after they did some shopping. Apparently they hatched a plan to get it for me for Father's Day. I was super surprised when my 8 year old son walked in with it.

It plays really really nice and so far seems like a fairly flawless build. It's an Indo but a Premium. I'm a big Kiko Loureiro fan but that isn't what drew me to this axe. I liked the feel of the "slightly" thicker neck. It's definitely a noticeable difference with my Jem Jr all around. For some reason I can never take good guitar pics. Anyway, here it is:

Nice!

I remember playing one in a store pre-pandemic, I agree though being like a thicker S series body was almost unexpectedly comfortable.

Super Congrats!! Recently, the INDO/KOREAN guitars are the only Ibbys I can find in a decent price point. As a result, I've added two such guitars to my collection. The S470 and an RGT42DX. I have been on the lookout for another guitar and I'd love to have one of these!!! Score!!

Thanks Todd. Yea, it's probably small potatoes but even within this price range (almost $2500 Canadian dollars after taxes) you'd think they could throw you at least one of those nice soft shell cases. [gripe] This came with a gig bag and a nice Ibanez multi-tool. 🙄 [/gripe]

Of course I'd never complain to the fam, very happy. wink.gif Thanks everyone.

Our local Long & McQuade store. I unfortunately don't have a ton of options where I live to try before I buy. I've read that from 2018-2020 they were using panga panga for the fretboard wood in this model but switched back to rosewood for the 2021 line. I'm not familiar with panga panga so I'm kind of glad I dodged that possible bullet since this is a 2021.

Congrats dude!

I didn't have the chance to play this guitar but I played another Ibanez signature of the same prize range ($1500), the Ibanez Jiva.

It was surprisingly very good and felt great to play and super light!

1.5k is the mid range price tier on new ibbys. New prestige guitars are well over 2k. Thus why I end up hunting for used Ibby's when possible, but they are getting harder and harder to find!! I hope I do run across one of these. I have yet to see one come up used but they are a pretty new model. Super congrats again. Killer axe!

very nice .My wife did that once for me, the problem is I am left handed and am never able to play 1 as they are never in stores so she just picked one out and bought for my birthday. It was a low budget fender before they had CNCs making every thing. I felt bad but I had to return it . On the upside i found my Jackson which is my fav

So after a few weeks of playing the KIKO10BP I really hate to say it but it's just not quite as right for me as I may have thought.

One thing that bugs me, and this might not be an issue for some, is how close the volume knob is to the high E string. I noticed this originally but thought I could get over it. It just feels like my hand is so cramped in there when playing.

The other thing is that when I go back to a Wizard neck after playing it I realize how much I like the Wizard. It's not that I don't like the signature"s neck, but I just like the feel of the Wizard more.

So after a talk with my wife (lol), I am going to possibly exchange it for something else. Our local shop doesn't have a huge selection and I want to be able to play something before I buy. Wish me luck! 👍

Sorry it didn't work out, man. I know how you feel about trying before buying. I won't buy a guitar that I can't wrap my paws around first. I know that's not possible for everyone and my choices are a bit limited as well but that's just the way it has to be for me.

Yea, definitely man. I mean, I did try this for a short period before it was purchased and I did like it but after having it for a bit my gut is screaming at me. Luckily the store allows 30 days for returns. I'm heading down tomorrow to play everything (in price range 😁).

Sorry it didn't work out sad.gif

I think I see the issue! I went and looked up the neck on the ibby wiki and WOW is it thick for an Ibby!!!

The 'Wizard" profile is 17mm at the nut and it's a thing of beauty. The The Wiz II/III is 19mm at the nut and feels a bit more chunky. The Kiko neck is 20MM AT THE NUT!!!

For an Ibanez that is a crazy thick/fat neck. I didn't realize it was that large until I looked it up. I must feel a bit too chunky, given the size variation. I am a bit shocked that the neck is that thick at the nut to be honest.

Attached Image

If they have any of the GENESIS line in stock, any of them is a good catch and all of them feature the 17mm original wizard neck profile smile.gif

So I think I've picked out a guitar that I'm pretty happy with after a few days of playing it. It's an RG1120PBZ with the Caribbean Islet flat finish. It checks most of the boxes for me. Wizard neck that is 18mm at 1F and 20mm at 12F. Ebony fretboard with Jescar gold evo frets. Dimarzio Fusion Edge pickups and the Edge Zero II Trem. I love the volume knob placement and it has the Dyna-MIX 10 switching system with 10 distinct tones. It may be a little flashy or even tackey to some but I'm really digging the finish. Unfortunately I'm going to be really busy this week and won't get a lot of time to play it. 🙄
