Two lessons which I've been going over have cast a huge spotlight on my weaknesses in playing. They are Hand Synch and Ben's Land of Legato. I have a feeling that these lessons and their subsequent parts will have a huge impact on one's ability. I imagine a lot of people would vouch for their effectiveness. I'm gonna grind these out for the next while. The legato in particular requires a lot of hand strength and I'm hoping I'll be able to get there.

Hi mate!

You're right! These two lessons are great choices to work on your legato technique. I always recommend them to students. The whole "Land of legato" series is great and I'm sure that all this practice will have a big impact in your playing.

I wouldn't say that legato requires a lot of hand strength, I would say that it requires the right hand strength, hand position and economic movements.

If you want to add some complementary exercises, I recommend that you check lessons 1, 2 & 7 from my Intensive Technique Course.

What other things are you currently working on?

Thanks for the complimentary lessons Gabriel.

On top of the Hand Synch and Ben's Land of Legato I've been working on Alternate Picking - Thirds along with trying to polish the neoclassical sweeping and legato and ostinato etude. 👍

In 2014 I had a neck injury which caused a carotid artery dissection. As a result I had multiple Strokes. They left me with numbness on the left side of my body in certain spots. My face, tongue and gums and my left arm and leg. I've maintained most of my movement though but I find my arm and hand fatigue quicker than before. This is probably why my left hand and wrist seem to lack the stamina sometimes. It's worse on some days than others. Not an excuse, just thinking this may be why my hand fatigues. I figured playing the guitar could be the best physiotherapy possible so I try to practice at least 2 hours a day.

Bruce

Sorry to hear that mate, but it's nice to know that guitar is your treatment! That's another big reason to keep on practicing. biggrin.gif

Ok, that sounds like a good practice routine. If you'd like to have a thread on my board where I can monitor your daily/weekly practice, just let me know!

I think you might benefit a lot from doing some Missions on bootcamp. It's all about working on hand synch and doing clean
legato. there is never a speed requirement in bootcamp. I've seen it really help players. MISTERM is a great example.
