Heyy Gmcers smile.gif, I had a good idea today and I thought Id like to share it with you all. Ok so here at Gmc we get a frequent question always asked by a arrange of different people. WhatGuitar should I get ? Now this is in fact a very good question! Simple yet it has a arrangement of answers. Now what I plan on doing is making a poll with as many popular guitar brands I can think of. The plan is that when you find the brand you like of the guitar of your choice. You will right a short description of that guitar ( Specific model) as seen up in the topic description. The longer the description and the more extensive it is, the better ! But no novels lets keep them within reason! I think this might be a good contribution to the site and if all goes to plan we wont see this question any more smile.gif

Hardtail I just found your topic and im sorry. I will do something that hopefull you will appreciate and then this will be an even better topic smile.gif

- John

Edit: After looking over your topic , its all about " Budget guitar " And well my topic is about finding a guitar brandl/model that suits you and having members contribute to that by posting how their favorite model plays, feels and etc. So overall they are completley different topics and I dont feel as if I " Hijacked" Your topic in anyway.

Non the less I will still include some of your words in my topic to make it more well rounded for members posting.

I voted for Jackson because thats what suites me best.I especially love the (pre- Fender) Jackson guitars and even Charvel.I play mostly styles of Metal or hard rock what ever you want to call it along with lead.I had an awesome Jackson DK2 and it was my favorite guitar that i ever owned. The detail to craftsman ship along with there easy fast playing necks makes me a big fan. They are perfect for shred and lead playing along with heavy rythem playing.Only thing i didnt like about the DK2 i had was the Duncan Desinged (not setmour duncan) humbucker's it had.My opinoin is that Duncan Desinged pickups are the biggest peace of garbage i have ever heard.I would rather have a $10 pickup over those.Once i replaced the bridge humbucker with a real duncan the guitar was the greatest thing i have ever played and thats what makes me a Jackson lover. smile.gif

Sounds perfect!

I am board at work so I've already started compiling the list. I realize while I am strong in Blues/Rock gear knowledge I am weak in Jazz, and Metal... so any tips on what artists are using in those genres would be much appreciated.

Gibson. I love the playability, the looks, the sound. Since I mostly play blues, rock and metal(and a little shredding excerises) I think Gibson fit very well for me.

I got a Gibson Explorer Studio. It used to have mini humbuckers, but now I have replaced them with Stewart Macdonald Golden Age humbuckers. I didnt quite like the mini humbuckers. They were a bit too "noisy" and the sound was, uhm... Thin and boring? After I replaced them with humbuckers I fell in love with my guitar again. The sound is still not as deep as a Les Paul, I think it is becuase of the light body. But that doesnt bother me. I couldnt have been more pleased with the sound of my guitar as it is at the moment.
The Explorer Studio weigh almost nothing, wich is just awesome smile.gif
Since Gibson guitars usually dont have whammy bars, I bought a Stetsbar(www.stetsbar.com) and I'm very happy with it.

Someday I want a Les Paul, I tried one in a guitar shop this summer. I have never heard anything more beautiful than that guitar.

I also like Fender Stratocaster alot, excluding the neck. It's not that it's bad, I'm probably just used to my explorer. They got very different necks.

ive got ibanez rg 120, although the sound is a little weak i tune it down half a step and it gives me that heavy sound i like, I play mostly metal and hard rock so it suites me good i also have fender but i like my ibanez better smoother neck easier to play.

gibson and fender. that is what I have, and I am satisfied. primarily gibson les paul and firebird V. The Firebird really starts to shine at in the 140 to 200 bpm range. This has nothing to do with neck or high fret access. With my personal approach to technique that means little, I can play just as fast on my baseball bat neck les paul as the slim taper Firebird. It just sounds good when you play fast, and set the equalizer to pick up high range. the stock small humbucker pickups really shine, great harmonics, cuts though, but still a sweet tone. And also lets face it, a Firebird with the thru body neck looks real good. The neck is beautiful, and it is quite unusual with that long neck and the banjo tuners. Whatever you Ibanez fans say, when you call that thing good looking, you are kidding yourself. Sort of like a homely wife, who can cook well. But I will always probably be a les paul man, for the tone and sustain. les pauls sound good not just playing shred, but also playing slow. I like my Telecaster better than my Strat.

For general purpose and fusion - Gibson Les Paul and a custom made guitar by Andy DeMetriou. Both are twin h/bs as I prefer a fuller deeper tone. Custom gets the most use as it has 24 frets, 2 EMGs and a floating floyd so is very versatile. Custom was made specially for me to my specifications and what can I say - pretty much my perfect all round electric biggrin.gif .

For jazz - and some blues - I have a Gibson Howard Roberts. Wonderful full and rich tone and a great neck - not a shredding type neck but very playable both for chordal stuff and jazz fingerpicking. It's a thinline semi as, as much as I love L5s, I find the full body archtops a bit too difficult to play comfortably.

For anyone thinking about buying their 'dream' guitar I would strongly recommend talking to a good luthier and maybe having a custom made specially for you. Hey Muris has biggrin.gif so it must be a good way to go. Customs are not as expensive as you'd think either.

Cheers,
Tony
