Now that is a semi click bait title to be sure. This vid has nearly a million views as it's got some clever stuff smile.gif He is doing something that I myself do when playing fast. Only picking now and then and using a lot of hammer/pull to fill in the gaps. If you can keep a solid mute, it can even sound like you are picking most of it. of course, sometimes i do pick everything when I want it to sound really impressive and precise. it's often not needed though. The best news is that what he is playing is pretty simple. You can bar one fret and do a bunch of pull/hammer and get a very shreddy sound out of it. Whaddya think?

*P.S. also take a look at his picking hand. He is keeping the palm mute the entire time and using his thumb/first finger to articulate the pick. This is the same techique I use when playing this way using a lot of hammer/pull. it keeps things clean especially when using a finger bar. Its the single most difficult thing for any student to learn it seems. But it's worth learning.

*You may have noticed he says he DOES NOT use a metronome. It seems to work for him, but I would not suggest folks try to work up speed without one as it can train the hand to play in a very random manner.

In addition to what Todd said about using metronome, I will suggest using all four fingers; things become way easier if you use your pinky too smile.gif

Very good point!! It's very important to include the weakest finger. it needs as much work as it can get!!
