It's sounding good so far!!!!

QUOTE (Kristofer Dahl @ Nov 22 2021, 06:03 AM) *
I had to give this a few days to let the mix sink in, it's still work in progress but let me know if you think this is going in the right direction.

Once I feel comfortable with the sound I'll be able to focus more on the vocals.

It sounds great Kris! I love how dynamic the drums sound now!

Here you can download my distorted rhythm & lead guitars, and synth pad in case you want to add them there.

Thanks a lot Gab, all of these make the mix better ( I have used the synth pad from scratch, ads important harmony).

Here is a new mix with chorus vocals.

Just some random thoughts I have now:

* I need to figure out how to make the vocals more interesting
* same goes for the whole arrangement, we probably need many more fills. I might also need to find some kind of upper shimmer that I can bus all channels to. Maybe also get more adventurous with drums using Logics drummer.

I like the placement of the vocals so far.
I think the low guitar should be louder than the nylon string on Ben's melody parts.
Gab's lead should also be hotter in the mix (it's such a beautiful part!).

I feel like I need to tread carefully not to fall down a cliff here, but I absolutely love exploring this new style 😎

Any feedback is welcome!

Also, there are lots of spaces for your guitar fills and arrangement ideas!

Getting there!
The vocals IMO should stay clear of Gab's lead parts. There's plenty of space around the melodic material for the vox.

I muted the tambourine parts in sections. I'll email you my latest version (obviously it won't have your lyrics on it).

Good point, I will experiment with a sidechained compressor where the vocals are overlapping Gabs lead.

Killer job!! I love the direction this tune is taking. I'll jam over this new mix to see if I can create some new fills and arrangements.

I think that we'll also need a musical bridge once we reach the second chorus.

Honestly, I would arrange the vox so that Gab's lead is the only melodic part at those points.

Thanks for the feedback!

Here I have focused on improving the vocal arrangement and tweaked the tambourine:

Cool! I like the direction that this one is taking. I feel that the chorus needs to grow a bit more musically.. maybe the distorted guitars can be louder, or we can add a new pad there.

Also, how do you think we can continue this one?

Here is a new version with a second verse. I would obviously like to progress much faster, but the only way I can make the vocals here sound ok is through a pretty much constant 4 track overdub/choirs. I have little control over my vocals - sometimes they sound good and sometimes they don't - and I have no idea why 😅

As far as the arrangement goes I agree the chorus needs a little beefing up - though I don't see it will be an issue since it's already pretty strong as it is.

My main concern is the intro (00:00-00:25). I think we really need some kind of high end shimmer [background] melody here. Maybe just careful arpeggiating of the chords an octave higher with a nice overdrive pedal? Otherwise we might loose everybody those 25 first seconds 😅

I love working with this track, it has such cool potential 🤩

Just a quick update to say I got a 'crunchy electric arpeggiated' guitar track from Ken and it does wonders!

I will experiment with some kind of melodic lead to complement it for the intro...watch this space 🤞

In this mix I have experimented with a slide guitar as intro. You can also hear Ken's new crunchy arpeggios discretely panned to the right, adding much-needed shimmer.

I have also started automating background choirs with a cathedral delay to emphasize some spots.

I don't know if maybe the mix is a tad crowded in the beginning, I need to digest it some.

I'm gonna say "too much".
I like the idea of some slide guitar but it needs to be haunting and lonely and sparse for this track.
