Wow. This is sounding really cool now. each iteration gets better. It's sounding more and more like something you'd hear on a curated spotify playlist. I love the contrast between the sections. I hope you release the final version for streaming on spotify and such.

Awesome you dig it 🤩 Yes every time I open the project I try to improve the mix/arrangement. At this point it's a matter of scaling things back to make sure there aren't conflicting tracks in the arrangement (everything should be there to enhance the lead vocals) - and also balancing the mix EQ/levels wise.

I have worked on the continuation, namely adding some sections where the arrangement is less busy to create some contrast.

I also put more emphasis on some spoken sections.

This track sends shivers down my spine! 🤩

Wou!! I love it!! Killer job Kris!! The song grew a lot.

I have worked my way backwards to the intro again hehe... I somehow feel that as the song gets stronger there is more pressure to deliver a stronger intro as well 🤩

So I tried adding some spoken lines, which hopefully should make the spoken vocals appearing later in the tune make more sense as well.

So here is just the tweaked intro:

I'm really digging the intro! has a very spaghetti western noir vibe to it. This may be the most creative track yet!

Thanks Todd! It might be a little dark but I figure we need something to catch people's attention in the beginning!

Here is a (rough!) possible structure for the whole tune.

That whammy solo? Yeah Ken made me do it 😅 And after it, comes his beautiful acoustic lines.

You'd be hard pressed to find a greater contrast between two solos.. but I think I like it! 😎

I also recorded some add lib vocals at the end.

Awesome Ken, I have a good feeling about this one as well!

I am doing some tweaks here and there while I let the mix and arrangement sink in.

Here is the whole mix again but I have added a million small tweaks 😅 Btw not sure if I overdid the drum arrangement at the end?

Btw I am really digging this 😎 What an amazing song idea from Cael!

It's brilliant!! I've been listening to this since I woke up. I love your Whammy solo, and Ken's acoustic one. The structure of the track is perfect. It's not a short song, but for any reason, I want to listen to it again and again.

Great job guys!!

So here is the whole (final!?) tune:
Attached File  11_DUAL_collab_2_2.mp3 ( 7.1MB ) Number of downloads: 109

Spoken:
Here's to my brothers,
who stood by me as I fell
Like so many times before
When I've felt fragile and sore
I hail to thee!

As the valley holds its weeping song
The sun sets sail to foreign shores
And here is where I used to roam
‘This is what I call my home

In the valleys you better sleep with eyes unshut
or the wilds will run you out of luck

This is where I belong
And this is my home

Chorus:
Through the valleys 'neath the wasteland wind
I roam these barren lands alone
This is where I belong
This is my home

As the valley holds its weeping song
you better sleep with eyes unshut
or the wilds they will run you out of luck
Though this is where I do belong
And this is what I call my home

I used to call my home
Used to be so strong

Chorus:
Through the valleys 'neath the wasteland wind
I roam these barren lands alone
This is where I belong
This is my home

As the rock would roll, so did the soil, so did my soul
As with Rock n Roll, we had a ball, we filled the halls
Nowhere do we go from here 'cause no man leaves the land!

03:33 Whammy solo by Kris

No man leaves the land!

04:02 Epic nylon solo by Ken

I'm on my way, home again.
I'm coming back again...
mama!!

I'm coming home again

-------

I am extremely proud of the end product, it's just more organic than anything I have been involved with before - and it's oozing chemistry between the participants and the original song structure by Cael!

very nice .. my two cents .. the very last line you should leave out "again" as it leaves the listeners in no state of discomfort" if you will , but without it the listener is questioning = did he make it , die , wait , what happened , rather than when the last word is drawn out again. is like "oh he made it" " he has done this before " and if he has done this before , is it that big a deal ? , and I think without it it is more heart wrenching which to me is the theme of the song

Awesome you dig it bro -

Also cool you caught the 'death' vibe there at the end, that's the kind of ambiguous messaging I was going for. It could either be that he simply returns to mum again, or it could be the final anguish before death 😱

The phrasing at the end would need to be reworked if I am to remove a syllab, and I am afraid of touching this one now - it's already cemented as a track in my mind. But keep the feedback coming, it's has been very inspirational 👊

I've been keeping track of this thread too of course, and I think it's really cool - especially how it's sort of gone in a different direction to my original "vision". I mean, not that I had anything set in stone, but of course when you have an idea, it can sort of be part of a bigger image, but it's been really cool to follow this - and also hear the takes from people in the student collab thread, and also do the video comments. That taught me A LOT too.

I think it's really cool how the tracks are different, but still have sort of a similar theme.

I do agree with JSTCRSN though that you should leave out the final 'again'.

Cool!! This project has been very inspiring. It's interesting to see how the same idea can take different directions regarding composition, arrangements and production.

I remember talking with Cael about feeling uncomfortable in a band situation when you don't share the same thoughts regarding the direction of a song. This question goes for Cael, what are your thoughts about the final result of this one? I imagine that you had a completely different idea of how this one should have evolved... do you like this one more, less, the same?

I think it can be down to the initial mindset about it too. The idea for this was very much based around being for GMC, left a bit open to interpretation and I was in a way "less attached" to it that way, as opposed to going into writing or working on something while having a more complete vision for the project.

With that said though, what I thought about originally was less busy than what you guys have here, but that's not to say it's in any way bad - and I don't mind it as I'm not THAT attached to the idea of the song, if that makes sense - from a compositional viewpoint.

When I was 18 I played with a drummer, and we were very much into the same kinda music and was very much on the same wavelength. Maybe that has skewed my ideas about how a band should be tongue.gif If it's a bigger vision and project that I've specifically and intentionally set out to do, then it can be difficult when people take it in a completely different direction that doesn't feel like it's working. I never felt that with any of this though smile.gif
