After seeing some previews I thought I found what I was looking for for a long time: a step-by-step walkthrough to great soloing. I hope I won't be disappointed. I've played the guitar since I was 7, that makes 10 years now. I think I have the right to say I have some talent. (bragging ahead) I am considered (by the guitar teacher, who is really good by the way) as one of the two best guitarists at my music school. I can read and find notes at an amazing speed; I learn difficult songs by heart in a matter of days; I have a very good hearing and know where to find every note on the fretboard, chords as well. I also took up the lute two years ago, which I have mastered in a very short time, all due to my excellent reading of notes and tablature. But why am I not happy with my playing and have I decided to sign up? I feel as if I'm not 'playing'. I can read and play music very well, everyone around is impressed and, well, jealous. But I cannot improvise decently. I have minor knowledge of the pentonic scale; that's all. I can improvise poorly on Greensleeves. I desperately want to work on that and play along with the tv. The lute music I told about revolves a lot around improvising. With my current ability I can indeed jingle a little around some chords, it sounds nice, but not 'real'. Well, that's all for now. Some education systems in music schools have weak points in,sort of saying,"jamming part". Reading notes and tabs is great,all you have to do now is to jam a bit. The major problems I seem to have are finding out where to solo (key; and supposedly there are more places in which you can solo in the same key), and how to solo (pentonic? iambic? karhiboxitonic? , I really have no clue how to figure that out, also in reference to the key). The next three months my goal is to overcome those issues,.., combined with GMC and music school I know this isn't going to be a problem. That's all for now, have a great weekend!
