He is one special guitar player. Simply amazing, the heart and soul he pouts in to it.

Indeed he is I was ironically going to post a link to the same video to prove my point but I think we all get the memo, Steve Vai = Brilliant guitar player

But he is not my favorite for many reasons.

Yeah m I like steves vai's playing but you know I really do like Andy timmons alot more. Two totally different guitarists. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KaVVZYOvMFY

Steve Vai may be more skilled then alot of guitarists. But I just like alot of other guitarists more.

Same thing here smile.gif I think he is by far one of the best player's ever but, i do not play like this and rarly listen to music in this type of style.Yet i respect him as i look up to him, what i really like about Vai is how accurate his playing is.For example just the way he strikes the notes or bends the strings he does it EXactly right every time no mess up or sloppyness just perfect from so many years of practicing.

Oh...another Steve/Satch "Copy-Paste" guy. And honestly, after listening to Vai for 3 years there is no player out there that can make me think it's Vai playing. Vai is Vai.

And to reveal you a little secret...i'm bored of music like this. Just can't stand it any more. I guess i listened to it too long. I found that these old-school bands like 2 guitars, drums and bass guitar just got boring.

All stated above is my opinion. You're free to disagree with it.

DeepRotts: it's a song! He performs it very often!

JOhn: metal which has rich orchestrations and arrangements, classical music and other stuff related to orchestra. It makes music much more interesting.

All good morning,

The Vai covers are good. I strive to be there some day however, I want to bring the theory and music also not just the tech.

My buddy and I are going to see Steve Vai in Alexandria VA at the end of Sept. I find my self drawn to his music. His albums Sound Theories is interesting. Real Illusions is what hooked me. I want to get his live album.

Shred on my brothers and sisters.

Pavel, I can respect that. Me and you we just have very different aspirations. At 41, my dreams of being a professional musician are over. Way too much water under that bridge. My goals for myself are very simple. I want to get technically proficient enough to be able to play the music I love listening to. So when I see someone practically there, I cant help but admire that. I find a place like youtube totally inspirational. I come across guys (and gals) like that, and that just another shot of adrenalin to help me play more.

True, I suppose if I listened to the same stuff for awhile , I to would get sick of it. But based on the many covers ive seen this one was good. Not " Poop your pants Amazing God SKills Ftw good" but you get my vibe.

Cesar is clearly a good player with an even better ear (and if you watch some of his original videos you’ll see he has some ability to improvise as well), but it’s sad to see someone so hung up on such an incredibly small list of players. If he spent more time exploring other players you’d suddenly see a lot more variety in his covers, and a change in his personal style (which as it stands, is probably overly Vai-influenced).

Having said that, I am completely sick of these Vai / Satch / Johnson / Malmsteen covers that attempt to be exact duplicates to the studio version. Zero originality and they rarely manage to capture the magic. It’s like all these cover guitarists ever heard was the G3 albums.

The list of widely known virtuoso guitarists is disturbingly small… to the point where many people actually think Vai, Satch, Petrucci, Malmsteen, Timmons, or (God forbid) Wylde are the fastest / have the best guitar technique out of anyone, which is obviously ridiculous. They’re all great melodic songwriters, but there is so much more out there that you’ll miss out on if you never look past the small list of popular guys.

But that's the case in any music, there's a small widely known group of musicians, those are the ones lucky enough to get discoverd.
That's what I love about music, there's allways more to discover!

For example myself, at first I thought that music is only what is shown on MTV, then I saw Staind's video for "Outside" and I just thought damn I wanna play the guitar! and so I got intrested in guitar influenced music, and a friend of mine intruduced to me this magnificent band called In Flames, and my interest just kept growing! I started listening to more and more bands, including Dream Theatre and Symphony X.

And then my guitar teached introduced me to Vai's music, and I was just amazed! up until that point I thought that Petrucci was the greatest guitar player in the world! and then I heard Vai, and later on Satriani, and Yngwie, and Eric Johnson, and I kept on growing my musical intrests!

And then I stumbled across you'r video Dave, Guitar Sucks, and suddenly I knew about alot more guitarists!

What I'm trying to say is that the term "Widely known" is very relative, before I knew Vai and Satch I didn't know them at all and my friends still have no idea who they are, they are just widely known in the guitarist's world, just like some Virtuoso musicians are widely known in their field of music, but it takes pure interest to get to know all the diffrent kinds of music out there! there's too much to music for it all to be widely known!

Whoa I wrote alot hope I didn't lose my point there tongue.gif

Now, to add something about the actual player; Cesar Huesca is someone who I have followed for quite some time. Having met him once in Mexico I must say that his way of playing most songs by ear is amazing. He hardly ever uses any tabs, and if you listen to some of his own songs, you see that he doesn't just copy Vai or <insert shredder here>. He does have the rare piece with vocals, but most are so far just instrumentals.

Anyway, all in all - he is one amazing guitarist who improvises on most covers he makes as well, but he is not just a copy cat smile.gif

If you want to check out more of his stuff, check:

www.soundclick.com/cesarhuesca
www.myspace.com/cesarhuesca

Edit: Oh, and I like his cover of Bad Horsie too, got some nice improv there: http://tinyurl.com/2e4bc3

P.S I am in no way affiliated with Cesar or anything, I just consider him another great up-and-coming guitar player. D.S
