So, after many years of hacking around (self-taught) I finally found GMC and it's opened up my world and got me excited about playing and learning again. Needless to say, my skills have rapidly increased and I'm jamming again w/ bandmates - including my son:

I have an 11-year old son who is an amazing drummer, but -- also self-taught. Anyway, I think he is ready for some instruction, but like me, is resistant to do the "once a week, in-person lessons" at a drum shop or whatever. He is a computer geek like most kids his age and might get into a "DrumMasterClass". Does anything like GMC exist for drummers?? He has seen GMC and I've already caught him w/ my guitar doing the beginner lessons so I know he'd be into it.

Maybe Kris knows, or maybe GMC will expand, as it has w/ bass and vocal lessons?

Thanks in advance for any replies, and again, I am in awe of the awesome talent I see every day here!

good question, it would be great to have some drum lessons, not that many, but just some, to increase a little in variety. I also think that Kris might like the idea of affiliating (idk if thats the word) with other "Masterclass" sites. Sites that have the same goal, same great community, etc. as GMC, but of different instruments, in this case, drums. What do you guys think?

I'm really excited by this idea. I recently started on here, and this site is awesome; my guitar has gotten a lot better. I've drummed a lot longer though, and I'd be happy to put together some lessons for this site. I pm'ed Kris about it earlier today to see what he thought, and I'll post here when I get his answer.

Basically we are open for any kind of lesson - if we were contacted by a good drum instructor tehre is no way we would say no! smile.gif

So yes this is a good idea!

thats awesome kris! Hey, i think like an ad on the main page stating what you said, that lessons on other instruments are well accepted on GMC would be good and would encourage other instructors to join!

We actually had exactly that for a couple of months in the teach online section - however having it somewhere on the main page would probably be more effective. But that leads us to another question - do we really want to sacrifice space on the main page - which could lead to us missing a new guitarist instrcutor teaching a whole new style...?

This is the problem with web that you only have so much space - so you have to be careful with the priority of things to display... smile.gif

good point. We definately dont want to sacrifice space for guitar lessons, not me. Perhaps a small portion of text with a hyperlink to more detailed info.? Im not sure... what do the rest think?

Great! I'm by no means a virtuoso, but I know I could put together beginner and intermediate lessons. There's also a lot of genre-specific drumming that can be taught, as well.
And Muris, I understand your concern. The bass and singing lessons all kinda go with guitar anyways, so drumming would be a bit of a jump. I really think that it would attract a lot of people though, and teach some guitarists to play the drums and some drummers to play the guitar. Never a bad thing. biggrin.gif

Here's something for your son:
http://freedrumlessons.com/

Great free video lessons, complete with notation etc. which taught me basic drumming in less than two days! biggrin.gif There's also lots of advanced stuff on that site.

I have an idea. Since GMC has few drummers you can create torrents. You just record your drum lesson and then turn the video file into a torrent using a program such as BITCOMET (its free). Torrent files are only 10KB only, so you can upload many vids. Users just have to open the torrent file and dowload the video.

The only problem is that people can upload you vids in other sites. To fix that you could ask some of the computer techie staff of GMC to put a verification user name and password (it can be done with a windows media player plug in, using your GMC account on each vid) on the downloaded vids keeping the vids safe.

That could work, jammer. It'd be a bit less user-friendly to access, but like you said, there's probably not enough people for that to be a problem. You know, for that matter, we don't even know how many people would be at all. I think I'm going to start a new post with a poll to try and find out...

Well, drum lessons would be cool I guess, although I myself have no plans whatsoever to start playing drums. Maybe some day...
