I am new to guitar and when I try to solo I find myself stuck in one scale. Do you have any tips on how to change scales or keys in the middle of a solo to add variation without it sounding bad? Thanks! Andrew

It's going to sound tedious, but memorize the fretboard. When you know that you're in C major and if you want to switch to A major, you know that they both have the note "A" in them. If you know where every A on the fretboard is (and achieving that isn't as hard as some people think), you can pull it off pretty seamlessly. Thats just an example, there's other ways to do it.

My suggestions to learning the fretboard: Use something like fretboard warrior. Have a basic grasp of intervals, and know the open strings by memory so that together you have the knowledge to count each note going up a string.

Memorize the dotted notes up to the 9th. From there it's easy to sharp or flat any of those notes to get what you want and memorizing the whole thing suddenly becomes a feasible goal.

Just a suggestion smile.gif

Gear: Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster, Gibson '67 RI Flying V, Mesa Boogie F-30 112 combo, crazy pedals.
