Knopfler Technique

His thumb is not limited to top three strings and moves depending on the other strings played (thumb can play G, B or E), especially in the legato/staccato parts. For chords, he often plays with the index and middle finger tied together up and down : with the nails down, with the pulp up. Last but not least : he is left handed but plays with a normal guitar (for right-handed). So his left fretting hand is very strong, and he can play outstanding bends. That for the technics. This is his fabulous staccato played with thumb plus index and middle finger together.
