Hi all,

Me again. Sorry to be a pain. I am new to guitar so please bear with. (LOL). So i'm looking at getting rid of my cube 30x as it doesnt have an effects loop (effects return) in it, and i am looking at getting a podxt or podx3. ( Not to sure witch one. Any ideas?) Anyways so im looking at getting a tube amp, but will be using one of these pods all the time, through the effects loop (effects return). I'm basically after suggestions as to a decent amp. Im learning to play stuff like Metallica, Blink 182, Greenday etc. Will this Pod cater for all these different Genres, and what amp.

ps. Whats the differnece between podxt and podx3

Cheers

Nody

I always thought pods need to be played through something without it's own character like a speaker system, otherwise the amp models won't sound right cause you'll always hear the original amp.

And my very own opinion: Why would you want to mess the awesome sound of a tube amp with the fromt-the-box sound of a pod?

+1 - The pods strength is its amp modeling. If you have a tube amp you wouldn't even want to use that. Take that away and you have a reasonable but expensive multi-effects unit.

If you want to use the pod as it was intended, you need a clean amp like a PA or Keyboard amp. You could also probably use a very clean guitar amp but that wouldn't work quite so well. Also, I wouldn't put a pod in the effects loop, it is designed to be used in front of the amp.

agreed. POD's work brilliantly through Effects return but theres no point paying for a tube amp if your not going to use the tubes. u might aswell buy a 100W cheap combo amp that has decent speakers. the cheap behringer series is good, so is the Crate's they both work decent with my POD XT

POD X3 is the updated version of XT. the models and effects have been updated and it has some sexy new features.

Very good (and cheap): use headphones...
I use a pair of ADK 240 monitor headphones and it the sound is great.
Also. practising with headphones is good because you hear every little mistake, only problem is pratising with a metronome....

no problem, when you set the POD up, make sure the output mode is set to Combo Amp and not Combo Front. makes a big difference.

and dont use the effects loop, just the effects return so nothings using the input of your amp... this bypasses all of your amps preamp so it basically acts as a PA with an attached cab. makes good use of cheap amplifiers with good speakers.

so....

guitar > pod > effects return

im guessing so, aslong as its a powered monitor... not sure which settings you would use though, im guessing Studio setting on the POD would do.

The difference is;

Your probably best getting a Keyboard amp if you plan on getting a pod like Andrew says. wink.gif

Or alternatively you could get a Line 6 amp with pod settings built in like a Flextone III or a Vetta. cool.gif

Check this : http://www.atomicamps.com/products.html

Atomic Amplifiers’ Reactor Series is a unique family of tube amplifiers specifically designed by the legendary amp guru, Harry Kolbe, to bring to life the tone created by modeling tools, with all of the organic warmth and power our ears love to hear. Atomic currently offers three types of Reactors to accommodate a player’s specific power needs - they are the: AR112-18, AR112-50 and AR212-50. Reactor Series amps allow guitarists to generate the versatile, authentic sounds from dozens of different tube amps and effects and take them live to every gig, rehearsal and jam session. All you need is a Reactor and your amp modeler, which conveniently mounts right into the amp.

This sounds like a really nice option

When you purchase an Atomic amp, a dock and a template kit for your particular modeler comes with
it. Check out their web site to see how this works. There are pictures of amps with the POD installed.

I have a vox AD30VT and am looking to buy a POD XT live (for gigs and the effects).

My amp doesnt have an effects loop (what is it for anyways and how do we use it)?

Do i need an effects loop to plug in a POD XT live into my amp or can i just connect my guitar to the POD which is connected to my amps input jack?

How do you guys fare the POD XT live for its hi-gain dist models (im looking for a bullet for my valentine sorta sound)?

Does the POD have a "whammy" effect (my guitar doesnt have a whammy bar)?

Okay first things first.

The effects loop. If you use your amps distortion and you add for example your own delay pedal, you would want your delay to be added onto the distorted sound and not the clean sound. So basicly its added "effects" after any amplifier effects has been applied.

In the case of the POD / PODXT etc. You would use it to bypass your amplifiers "Bass/Mid/Trebble" EQ. Even tho their set to 12' they still affect your sound.

The atomic amplifiers does no include the Bass/Mid/Treble or any form of a PRE amp. Its only an all tube power amplifier and this has a volume knob for that purpose.

The PODXT Live and PODx3 has amps like a Mesa boogie triple and dual rectifier, bomber and other super high gain amp sounds. Bullet uses a Peavy 6505 so these models should get you pretty close.

The PODXT has this whammy effect : Digitech Whammy Pitch Effect

And if you do get a POD. Rather try and go for the new Pod X3 it has more amps and effects.
