I always thought pods need to be played through something without it's own character like a speaker system, otherwise the amp models won't sound right cause you'll always hear the original amp. And my very own opinion: Why would you want to mess the awesome sound of a tube amp with the fromt-the-box sound of a pod? +1 - The pods strength is its amp modeling. If you have a tube amp you wouldn't even want to use that. Take that away and you have a reasonable but expensive multi-effects unit. If you want to use the pod as it was intended, you need a clean amp like a PA or Keyboard amp. You could also probably use a very clean guitar amp but that wouldn't work quite so well. Also, I wouldn't put a pod in the effects loop, it is designed to be used in front of the amp. -------------------- Check out my Instructor profile

agreed. POD's work brilliantly through Effects return but theres no point paying for a tube amp if your not going to use the tubes. u might aswell buy a 100W cheap combo amp that has decent speakers. the cheap behringer series is good, so is the Crate's they both work decent with my POD XT
POD X3 is the updated version of XT. the models and effects have been updated and it has some sexy new features. -------------------- Guitars: Epiphone Les Paul Standard w/ Dual EMG 81 Pickups. QUOTE Didn't know that - thanks! no problem, when you set the POD up, make sure the output mode is set to Combo Amp and not Combo Front. makes a big difference. and dont use the effects loop, just the effects return so nothings using the input of your amp... this bypasses all of your amps preamp so it basically acts as a PA with an attached cab. makes good use of cheap amplifiers with good speakers. so.... guitar > pod > effects return -------------------- Guitars: Epiphone Les Paul Standard w/ Dual EMG 81 Pickups. QUOTE muntahunta- can you recommend a crate amp for the use with the pod im afraid i cant, ive only used my friends crate amp and ive got no idea what model it is. QUOTE Can a monitor be used in place of the amp? im guessing so, aslong as its a powered monitor... not sure which settings you would use though, im guessing Studio setting on the POD would do. -------------------- Guitars: Epiphone Les Paul Standard w/ Dual EMG 81 Pickups. Check this : http://www.atomicamps.com/products.html
Atomic Amplifiers’ Reactor Series is a unique family of tube amplifiers specifically designed by the legendary amp guru, Harry Kolbe, to bring to life the tone created by modeling tools, with all of the organic warmth and power our ears love to hear. Atomic currently offers three types of Reactors to accommodate a player’s specific power needs - they are the: AR112-18, AR112-50 and AR212-50. Reactor Series amps allow guitarists to generate the versatile, authentic sounds from dozens of different tube amps and effects and take them live to every gig, rehearsal and jam session. All you need is a Reactor and your amp modeler, which conveniently mounts right into the amp. This sounds like a really nice option |

I have a vox AD30VT and am looking to buy a POD XT live (for gigs and the effects).
My amp doesnt have an effects loop (what is it for anyways and how do we use it)? Do i need an effects loop to plug in a POD XT live into my amp or can i just connect my guitar to the POD which is connected to my amps input jack? How do you guys fare the POD XT live for its hi-gain dist models (im looking for a bullet for my valentine sorta sound)? Does the POD have a "whammy" effect (my guitar doesnt have a whammy bar)? tHANKS -------------------- _____________________________________________________
