This is what I answered for another questions ( the same problem) in the forum:

Ok!
In other opportunities my students ask me the same thing.

And what i tell them is that singing is like speaking just holding the notes, So you have to start with the first step.

I recommend playing the guitar and while you do this just talking. Say something that you usually say. For example: Your national anthem, or anything that you don't have to think about it, like the happy birthday (don't singing it ok? , just say that words)
Then try to improvise a conversation like: "My name is .... I'm..... I like......! things that you have to think a little what you have to say. So, your concentration start to dividing. Easy words at first!

This exercise helps a lot when you have to sing. You have to learn how divide the concentrations.-

Try this.. It works

Thanks Luciana. This is a great advice, it helps develop from the bottom with a good base to start.

I also need to learn this.. not need.. but I want to:-D Now, I am a singer, and when I dont sing (solos etc.) I play rythm parts.. but I want to combine it, so I need this:)

Anyway.. I find it much easier to sing in some open chords stuff, than to play some hard rythm with power chords, or just one sting.. sounds strange, but its fact :-D

it's amazing how such simple advice can make such a profound impact

I've tried singing while playing guitar before and found it was nearly impossible, unless the vocal melody was exactly the same as guitar.

I just tried the talking thing and Ive made huge progress... too bad my voice is garbage

Also singing whilst playing guitar becomes easier if you know the song you are playing incredibly well to the point you play it without thinking.
