Hey everyone, Im Jim. Im 29 and live in Manchester in the UK cool.gif

Have been a member for a week or so but have been so busy practicing that I haven’t had time to post tongue.gif

I used to play a bit like 10 years ago but with life I put the guitar down and didn’t touch it for a very long time, I got the bug again and was browsing the web when I came across GMC and had to join biggrin.gif

My first guitar was a cheap Encore strat copy which is battered not much use anymore so I’ve treated myself to a new Jackson DKMG in forest green and a Valve Junior amp.

I’m finding the larger frets a bit of a pain to be honest but im sure ill get there, I’m really trying not to push too hard on the strings as ive been told this is they way to play with jumbo frets laugh.gif

Have been practicing my alternate picking using Kris's and Pavel's lessons and although I’ve got no speed at all laugh.gif im getting nice clean notes and getting used to using the metronome cool.gif Wish Id knew about the metronome 10 years ago wink.gif

Music wise I love almost everything but The Foo fighters are probably my Fav band (going to see them next week) But my ipod is full of everything from Metallica, System of a down, Radiohead to the smiths. The Pigeon detectives - "Wait for me" is the album of the moment smile.gif

Will try and keep posting but I work with a dog rescue in my spare time so time is precious smile.gif And my dogs would rather im playing with them than my guitar.

Nice to meet you all cool.gif

Jim

Welcome biggrin.gif

You have found the best site on the web for learning guitar. The forum has so much info on it....I find it just as usesul as the lessons. Hope to see you around the site and maybe in the chat.

rok

PS: Love all the bands you mentioned. I've been giving the Foo Fighters Skin and Bones album some decent airplay in my truck smile.gif
And also Go ManU!!!!!!!!! Love those Devils.

Welcome Bigjim!

Your story seems very similar to mine; I just started playing again after a very long time.
Like me, I'm sure you'll find out that with all the helpful people and instructors here,
you can get back up to speed very quickly.

Smells: Your story is a little to familiar as well;
Man, if I had spent as much time practicing in my 20's as I did hanging out with Jack Daniels and Mary Jane... rolleyes.gif

No comment Rok wink.gif .

I support Everton (the other team in Liverpool - do NOT mention last weekend), St Helens RL, Ireland (Rugby and Football) and ANYONE who is playing against England (football or Rugby). Once got told to get out of a pub in Newcastle because I cheered when Holland scored a goal against England laugh.gif . So I guess I kind of get carried away a bit as well smile.gif .

Cheers,
Tony

Now now Rok - I used to be a City fan - I grew up 20 miles outside of Manchester! Although to be fair I was never that into it, only ever saw one game, and prefered playing my guitar to any sports, so you can be forgiven smile.gif

For the price its a Tube amp which is goo smile.gif The tones a bit dull and it needs a bit more gain but im going to mod it when I get chance cool.gif You tube link - VJR Vox mod Thats what Im aiming for biggrin.gif

Thanks for the welcome all cool.gif
