Pentatonic Key Shifting Demo

Not a lesson, just an example of how to move Boxes so beginners can improvise in any key. I start from Am and move up a semi tone untill i reach Em. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SVRma_y020I You can of course move up or down, and use all 5 of the boxes not just one which is what i usually do. thanks. Interesting thing is this kinda ties into one of the other discussions about memorizing the fretboard. Personally when I'm practicing stuff ( Major scale is really good for working all finger positions, imo ), I'll take a box pattern ( like the first major position with 3nps ) and do it on each note, excluding sharps and flats. As I start each box doing the run twice, I say the name of the root ( from F on 1st fret to E on 12th fret ), then move up like you're doing. If I'm practicing slowly, then I may try and name the 5ths and roots all along the scale as I hit them. I certainly don't have the fretboard memorized, but this has helped me with working on my stamina, finger flexibility, scale boxes and being able to find my way around the fretboard much faster than I could ever do before. =) You are at GuitarMasterClass.net Don't miss today's free lick. Hi Iluha, That is not problem You would be supprised how many very new players dont figure out this simple "trick" for quite a long time!! It certainly seems a good approach. I have the entire fretboard inbedded in my mind now after useing a fretboard "trainer" for an hour or two everyday for six months I could be found cursing at it most days this summer, but i think its been worth every second of hard work!!
