Each Brand's Style?, help me to choose my 2nd guitar

Nov 2 2007, 08:16 AM	GMC:er Posts: 95 Joined: 17-September 07	so... i was using a cheap no-name brand guitar, cuz i was beginner.. or still ... and im looking for my 2nd guitar now.. but i don't know what guitar i should buy... i don't know each brand's merit, style... so here's the question: can you guys list each brand's name and style, and recommend which is better .. ? like, Ibanez's rg is good for heavy metal...(right ?..) and les paul is good for every style... Basically I use these main brands when talking guitars Ibanez Schecter Gibson Dean ESP Fender Gildon Jackson Really these are the top brands in my opinion Ibanez- Really fast guitars ( great for metal, shredding ) Schecter - Really Versatile (I use mine for metal but i also get a really nice clean and effect tone. Not as fast as ibanez but can be shred on) Gibson - Very Versatile. Used for just about any type of music. Lots of people love the feel IMO i don't like it. Great sound tho. ( Not as fast as Ibanez but still could be shred on ) Dean - Metal/ Hardrock. Ive never really seen them used for alot of other things.. great sound fast guitars and they have very low end models. ESP - Shred Fender- Wouldn't use it for metal.. great for everything else. Gildon- Rock-blues-funk very affordable but not actually too widly availible. Jackson- Metal... ive tried to use it for other genres and it doesn't work to well. Very short necks and very heavy guitars(sound wise) Metal rythem is great on these, Its one of my personal favorites All of these Brands have lots of different guitars that may specify more towards your needs. These are just my favorite Brands. i would recommend Schecter very highly. i use 1 as my main and absolutly love it! would trade it for nothing. My second choice would be Jackson but only if your using it for metal. I really love these guitars i just find them to be less than versatile. Basically the Epiphone's are the poor man Gibsons with the exception of the Pups and the finish on the guitars: Example: Gibson Studio uses Alcino magnetic humbuckers, Epiphone Studio uses Alcino Classic humbuckers. Example 2: Gibson Standard uses Burstbucker pro Pickups while the Epiphone Standard uses the Alcino Classic Humbuckers. The difference between the two Guitars is Tone, Sustain and looks. Of course the much higher priced Gibson wins out on all three accounts but where the tone and sustain are concerned some would say not by much. You really have to go out and play the different guitars to see what sounds and feels right for you. When I was ready to buy a guitar I thought for sure I was going to buy a gibson studio or standard and just for giggles I thought I would try out an Ibanez to see how much better the Gibson was. I ended up buying an Ibanez Rg1570 and love it more every time I play it. Of course this is me, you might love the Gibson or the Epiphone or a Fender even, everyone is different. It's like buying a car in a lot of ways, a very personal thing to do. Good luck and remember to take your time and have fun while making your decision. Nov 4 2007, 02:44 PM	GMC:er Posts: 1.311 Joined: 26-February 07 From: Tennessee , USA	Well i will just tell you the way i look at different brands of guitars.Im so sure many will disagree but this is just my look toward's it all and how i feel when it comes down to it.I'll start with Gibson Gibson=They make very nice guitars and use some of the best woods available.Thats great but one neg on that is the damm things will just about tear your shoulder all to hell cause they weigh about as much as T.V and that makes using them live more difficult.I mostly play metal and imo this isnt a metal guitar,sure it can be any guitar can be made to metal just not worth it for me.If i wanted a Les Paul i would not buy a Gibson unless i was totaly loaded bigtime.Reason why?Although they use some of the best woods and put excellent craftsmanship into there instruments i just feel you can get very similar results through Epiphone and other maker's.They are a notch higher overall but i would rather keep the extra cash than have just 5 to 10% better quality overall Epiphone=Very similar to Gibson but here is were wood ,stock parts,and overall quality come in play.Most people cant tell a big difference in sound between them both but any experienced player with a great ear will notice just that little differnce.If i wanted Les Paul i would go this route and buy proffesional Humbucker's along with replacing any parts if necisarry. Fender=I used to play a srtatocaster that i made for metal with a sey duncan sh-6 humbucker.I got so used to the neck its hard to change now.Basically i feel fender makes necks inbetween a Les Paul Style and a thin shred neck like Ibanez,Jackson ect.My only complaint on necks?So many times they make them 21 fret's which icant express how angry that made me and still does to this day This guitar has its pro's and cons against a les paul guitar by having a bolt on neck and single coil pickups.Its nice to have a bolt on so you can change them and if you break the neck your whole guitar isnt trashed but a set neck like a paul will give you the best sustain. Ibanez=A shred and metal mans dream This is the guitar that fits my style best along with Jackson Charvel,Scheter.Very nice thin neck that lets you just rip like crazy.Very competitve prices and great value for money.
