Having lots of trouble tapping cleanly. I always seem to get unwanted noise from the string directly above my tapping finger. I'm sure there is a thread about this but I can't find it. Any ideas?

There are many threads I believe but what do you mean by noise "above" your tapping finger?

Well then you're probably touching G string as well.
Try with changing angle of your tapping finger,
put it more horizontally with the strings, parallel.
Also slightly touch G string with some of left hand fingers, usually index is the best solution.
Sort of muting. smile.gif

Thanks Muris. I figured that muting with left hand is the key. Makes those tough licks a bit more tricky, but worth the effort. I'll stop searching for "easy answers". With enough time spent on this site it's apparent that there are no "tricks" - just good hard practice and fine technique. I'll get on it.

Well said,it IS all about practice. smile.gif

About licks being tricky with left hand muting,
after a while you'll find you're self really comfortable to use that technique,
it's almost like natural reflex, just give it some time. smile.gif

So, again, the solution is practice, ha? laugh.gif laugh.gif

It also depends on what you are tapping, right hand muting is also very important here. But i am sure you'll discover some things yourself with PRACTICE wink.gif biggrin.gif

I don't know how you're tapping so i can only tell you what i do to stop string noise. When i tap i place my right hand across the strings, literally resting on them. Some people like to do this karate (sp?) chop way but personally i like to do it with my thumb side palm. As i also tap upwards not downwards i find it makes it easier to move my hand as well. So because of this, it is impossible for the lower strings to ring out
