Please Help A Recording Noob!

I am a total noob when it comes to recording, as I spend 99.9% of my time practicing and the rest actually recording. I have managed to record a slow solo but its currently on a CD. In WAV form I belive! Now i need to obviously convert this to MP3 ? How do you guys do it? Do I need to buy some special converter software? or are there some good Freeware applications available? You can also convert to .mp3 with Audiograbber, but I think thats only when ripping CD's Is this a good or bad way to do it?
