I think the only high end amp I'm getting if the price range is over $1000 is an Orange head and matching cab.

I Played an uberschall....I was underwhelmed severely. The clean channel is so lacking..

Ecstasy= Awsome.

Did you play it in a shop? Uberschall should be played at high volume biggrin.gif the more volume the cleaner - its a stage amp only. So put it at 12 o'clock ++ and knock out the windows wink.gif

I'm a little worried about pulling tubes out to reduce power ...

If you have parallel output stages, they are mathched to the impedance of your output transformer. Pulling out tubes changes this relationship and you end up with an impedance mismatch. Probably not disastrous, but not ideal either ...

Uhm... so I should set my amp out to half of the cab then...
An attenuator sounds safer laugh.gif

Some others have mentioned this as well, but I'd really pay attention to the clean channel. Many manufacturers differ greatly here. If you REALLY like the Hot Rod's clean channel then try to stick with the Fender family or maybe boutique amps based on fenders. If you REALLY just like the crunch/distortion of the Hot Rod then you can branch out into other families... try to stick with amps that use 6L6 based power tubes (which means I'd steer clear of Marshall).

Just some tips.

Hey JVM, Reinhardt Bogner used more than 1 year to develop this new 6L6 based HD100 Valve amp.
The clean is ... AWESOME! And it has also true tube preamp output, using 12AX7 preamp valves.
And it got one or two (hundred) features aswell if you need those. But you dont have to ofcause biggrin.gif

... and it's almos christmas wub.gif
HD100 is about 1500$ including 4x12 Celestion® Vintage Guitar Speaker Cabinet tongue.gif

Yeah, that bogner/line6 is a really interesting amp! And the big surprise what that the price didn't go sky high as I had expected it to.

Check out some of the Carvin vintage series, they offer a few 50 watt heads and combos. If you go for the combo you can get the 2x12 cab. Nice thing with Carvin, there is no risk, order it, play it and if you don't like it return it within ten days for a full refund. They did however stop using v30 speakers due to cost and are now using Carvin speakers. They don't sound bad but many on the forums replace them with v30 or similar. Definately worth checking out and not as costly as some would think. The 50 watt combo with 2x12 cab I am looking at is under $1,000.

The Carvin did quite interest me. I like their vintages (i was going to get the vintage 16 before I got my deluxe) but I don't know if it really has the sound I'm looking for. And all of their other lines only have 100+ watts. I'd really like something under sad.gif So that kind of strikes out the line 6 as well.

I think so far the laney GH50l is winning for me. Obviously I need to play it, but many of my favorite players (and by extension favorite tones) play laney, such as opeth, iommi, gilbert and such. That gives laney some definite brand credibility in my eyes, and all of the clips I've heard make the GH50L sound pretty awesome, plus the price is great.

The only thing I could ask for more is that the laney have a seperate clean channel but that's not a big deal.

[edit] ooh, just realized it does have footswitch gain just not a different eq for clean tongue.gif

The GH50L you make me jealous now laugh.gif I mean that! biggrin.gif I want one too but there's not room for another head
Did you check the clips over at netmusicians?
there's plenty of clips on youtube too.

...and be aware there's like a religious sect around Laney with owners praising their amps biggrin.gif

I have my old carvin amp too, if you wanna try one of those out. It's 60watts of 6l6's and its clean channel is just super, the more juice you throw it the better it sounds. Just food for thought but if your interested in clean channels the old 6l6 carvins are hard to beat and can be bought really cheap.
