Vettaii And Variax, Anyone Tried Them?

Sounds a little too clinical, don't get me wrong I love line 6 products in general especially my toneport but the vetta didn't sound quite as good in my personal opinion. It sounded very bass heavy and didn't give that saturated feeling you get from a loud tube amp when its turned up. Overall I would say for home recording get yourself a POD and use it to play around at home as well but if your gonna use it for live work (which is the only real reason to get a vetta) its better to have a rack system or just a decent quality tube amp. I do some studio work here along with my band's albums and need something very efficiant. I was looking for a good Direct alternative, setting up the mics in studio is a pain and I can't really play too loud where I live. I'll try o find a store here that as some so that I can try them out myself. This ouwld be a killer combination if you need to switch from say twangy funk to heavy distortion between songs without changing guitars. Plugs directly into USB on your P.C so no need for a fantastic soundcard and includes two MIC inputs (with phantom power) two guitar inputs (one for standard and one for active pickup guitars) two line in inputs two analogue outs for connecting to speakers as well as a stereo monitor in. Most importantly though it comes bundled with the gearbox software which is absolutely amazing as it includes all the things you have in a POD xt however its so much easier to tweak the effects and cabinet models. Having this means you can also purchase add on models for FX, classic amps, metal amps as well as use the online tone library which can't be done on the POD or Vetta to my knowledge. Put it this way I have done all my recording using this so check out the members uploads and hear what I mean also the backing track for the metal collab was done using this aswell. If you wanna record, buy toneport, but don`t buy a Vetta only for that. FOr playing loud you have great other amps. I've tried the Vetta etc and had the same impression as Alex - sounded fine for a while but were rather sterile over a longer period. David if you want an amp for recording but if it doesn't have to be a modeler then there are some very good preamps from Engl - the 530, 570 and 580. All do a compensated out for recording. 530 is about 450Euros and so probably about 500 USD, 570 would be more like 1500USD and so on. All the Engls are, I think, valve and the 570 and 580 are midi compatible. Similarly there are the Recording Rectifier and the Triaxis from Mesa that are worth a look.
