Only one person is enough to get me nervous.
Well, sometime no one is needed. The last few measures of a difficult piece when I am shooting for You Tube would get me nervous. wacko.gif
The size of the crowd does not really matter to me.
I get less nervous if I am well prepared. smile.gif

For me it's a matter of preparation, setting, and whether it's with others or solo.
I try to practice performance pieces with distractions (kids, TV, etc) so I don't get used to playing them in total solitude. If I know a piece well, I'm not so nervous. If it's solo, then there's no way around it; I know that all focus is on me and it can be unnerving.

Usually, a few people are enough to get me nervous. Not anxious, but at least self-conscious about my playing which is not good. Other than that, I haven't really performed in a band yet so I don't know how i'd feel.

However, for my job, I have to give talks in front of small audience (less than 100). At the beginning, I was really scared (esp. when it has to be in english). I solved the problem with medication (it really helped). Fortunately, now I'm used to it, i'm just slightly nervous.

if you get nervous, try this mental trick. Imagine everyone in the audience is naked. you will break out laughing, and the nervousness will go away.

however never do this if the room is full of people over 50. you could end up emotionally scarred.

It's not the amount of people that matters. If I play heavy metal in front of a small audience with people who only listen to hip hop, THEN I get nervous tongue.gif But if I ever in the future could play in front of a large audience who really likes the music, then I don't think I would be nervous. ..well maybe a little tongue.gif

i get nervous infront of family.
but i've played at a party, about 40 people and was fine.
i said about 100 because i've played the sax infront of about 100-150 and i was nervous at first. but was fine once i got into it.
