Basically its a sequence of notes played one after the other intended to have a specific feeling/meaning..You can make different moods in solos using different phrasing..

Indeed. It's very related to talking, and goes for any instrument - the wind instruments are the most obvious, but it's very important to any instrument.

Phrasing in speech is done subconsciously, but also consciously for effect... Examples:

- Raise your tone of voice at the end of a question: "Did you really do that?"
- Emphasize a word: "I LOVE the smell of napalm in the morning" - "I love the SMELL of napalm in the morning" - "I love the smell of NAPALM in the morning" - "I love the smell of napalm - in the MORNING"
- Speak staccato: "Go. Away."
- Connected "legato" speech: "He's that I-could-do-that-twice-as-fast kind of boss"
- Meter in poetry: "Wer REItet so SPÄT durch NACHT und WIND?"
- Choice of sentence length - some such choices have become so commonplace we don't even think of the effect: "He's acting like he's god's gift to the guitar. Yeah... Right... Let's hear him try to actually express anything. Jackass." smile.gif

etc.

All those kinds of things can emphasise, beautify or even change the meaning of a phrase/sentence. Very important for sarcasm (which is why it rarely works on the web) etc.

Phrasing with instruments is the same - it's about putting those individual notes into... phrases... and express something with the way you put them together. Not just about connecting them, but about expressing something by how you put them together.

Staccato, legato, slides, dynamics, bends, changes in tone, effects, speed - just a few of the things you put together to phrase a piece of music.
