it's sad sad.gif

playing the guitar is supposed to bring you a pleasure, not a pain
I wish you a soon recovery smile.gif

it's important that we learn to listen to our body while we're doing anything, if we feel uncomfortable or a pain, we are doing it in a wrong way, it's the same with the guitar playing

QUOTE (Guitarman700 @ Dec 3 2007, 08:13 PM) *
My doctor has informed me that i have thoracic outlet syndrome, where the muscles in my arm contract and cut off circulation, so i can no longer play guitar. the pain is incredible and i cannot do many things with my left arm. so i may have to cancel my membership.

That sucks man, sorry to hear that. I can somewhat relate with you, though. I have a degenerative spinal condition and as a result, certain disks in my spine basically erode away to the point of rupturing. As a result, I've had two lumbar surgeries in 2 years. Now, I have a herniated thoracic disk, which from everything I've read and been told, is uber rare. I get wicked pain directly underneath my shoulder blade that radiates into my chest and it feels like I'm having a heart attack, almost. So strapping on the big mahogany guitar is always loads of fun. Anyway, I go to see my neurosurgeon next Monday. I'm assuming he's going to tell me I have to have surgery and I won't be playing guitar for a while. Which, in all honesty, I'm quickly getting fed up with a lot of the BS associated with playing anyway and am thinking of selling all my gear except my acoustic.

The pain is still there but it has relatively subsided, allowing me to play guitar for short periods of time. also, it turns out i was misdiagnosed, its not TOS, its tendinitis.
