What Kind Of Effects Pedal Should I Get?

I've looked through some of the pedals in some catalogs and some have as many as 50 different effects anyway what would recomend for me if it is going to be my first effects pedal? I'd say some ones to look at are definitely wah, delay, chorus and perhaps a compressor. And maybe a new distortion if it was only $20, what kind is it? I used a multi effect bored for a while and realised i was only using distortion reverb, delay and phaser, and since phaser sounds alot like delay i bought a new distortion, a phaser and i have built in reverb on my amp + i still love fiddling around with the hundreds of effects on the effect board.. i recommend looking into boss multi effects! Dec 17 2007, 05:45 PM	Learning Tone Guru - Community Coordinator & Moderator Posts: 6.319 Joined: 24-September 07 From: Sittingbourne, UK	Depends what sort of sounds your looking for but for a long time I`ve used stomp boxes, the most expensive ones arent always the best to get imo, for example I have the MXR dimebag distortion but I dont really like it and that cost me over £100 uk stirling, its sits on the shelf gathering dust. I ended up finding that the Behringer stomp boxes are very good indeed, I use the ultra metal pedal (it has great versatility, Chorus and a multi fx stomp box (which does delays, pitch shift, flanger) also a Boss EQ purely for solo volume boosting. the Behringer pedals imo are fantastic value, although I would say that they are plastic bodied, so if you are heavy footed on these things I dont think they`ll last forever, I`ve had mine a while now and so far no problems what so ever, and equally good to any of the more expensive pedals that I`ve owned in the past. It has 7 different distortions in one pedal you get Ibanez TS-9, Boss DS-1 Overdrive, DOD Overdrive/Preamp 250, Pro Co Rat, Boss Metal Zone, DigiTech Metal Master, Electro Harmonix Big Muff. I think the actual pedal might be slightly better but not by much. It would let you experiment with a lot of different tones without dropping a small fortune. I have a Fender Mexican Strat, and a FM 25 amp (I'm not sure what else to call it, its a small amp )... the amp has a few built in effects, but you cant really use any of them over top of each other, and you dont have much control as far as the level of, delay, reverb etc. Also I'm still not very good, as I have only been playing a few months now, but I am into playing all kinds of styles from thrash metal to classical.
