Hello,
My name is Mike. I got in the Inet biz in my 30's when the boom hit and retired to Costa Rica. So if you do the math I am going through my midlife crisis just about NOW!

I've always been interested in the guitar so why not now. I called a friend at guitartrader.com and bought an American Stratocaster. My Nephew says I rock but he hasn't heard me play so maybe I made a good choice on the equipment.

Today I am going out to buy a halfstack and to my regret there is not a Marshall to be found. A salesman has directed me into a Peavy valveking 412.

I know absolutely nothing, almost nothing. So today I will be starting my journey. Any help comments would be appreciated.

Seems like a big family here and I'm glad I picked GMC as my home.

Thanks. Not really a question because I don't have much of a choice. High end gear is just not affordable for the locals and us Gringos aren't plentiful enough to buy for. Shipping from the states is insane so I think I will learn to love the valveking or I will have to invite one of you guys down to bring me a decent halfstack. Actually it would have been cheaper to fly my nephew down with the Stratocaster than ship it FedX.

Really nice to see everyone is friendly and into the quality of the info on the site. I'm gonna run out and get some gear then run thru the powerchords lesson with an actual amp. Should be amazing and drive my neighbors nuts.

There are a lot of us older guys here. Don't worry. You really don't have a disadvantage here over the younger guys in terms of learning curve.

All that internet money and just one Strat? I am poor and I bought 7 guitars right off. Including 3 Les Pauls, and that is still not near enough. Now that is a real man's mid life crisis, come on, you have to do better than that.

Yes, this is very challenging stuff, but you will make progress if you work at it. Don't think you could come to a better site.

The cliche goes "you're only as old as you feel"

if you feel like a cocky young chordslinger out to do battle with the unsurmountable forces of nothing in particular, then who's to tell you that you're not.

How old you are has nothing to do with how mature you are as a musician.

Welcome to GMC, Your in the right place at the right time. The American Strat is a good call. I have one, Very slim and fast neck. Great tone. Regarding the Valve King, I have no experience with that Amp, but is all about the VALVES. I'm sure you will be thrilled with it. As soon as you play those first Power chords you'll wonder why you waited so long. You should post in the gear forum, and ask for suggestions on the right amp settings to get that sound you want. It is never to late.

Welcome to GMC Mike, hope you have a great time! smile.gif

Still trying to get my amp/head and GX300 effects machine working.

Thanks for the welcome.

I enjoy a great song writer much more than anything else. I am a huge Costello fan. So that means I am a fan of a mediocre guitar player, a singer with a rather non-range voice but a guy that can write songs that have touched me since 17. If you hardcore players can watch Elvis Costello live at the hitone on DVD I think you will see what I mean. SO Maybe I'm a cheat. I'd like to be abl to play "Bedlam" for me and give a crap if anyone knows what the song means.

Again everyone I have never felt more welcome on a site in my life. Considering I have built some of the most popular that is a compliment.

THanks.
