What is exactly the difference between Roundwound and Flatwound. (Besides the physical differences)? From what I hear flatwound is used for jazz and offer more bass. I've used them on bass but I'm just a bit curios on how they are on a guitar.

Hi m8, quite a good explanation of strings in general HERE, also explains other string types, theres also quite a large article HERE on exactly your question.

The summary seems to be that flatwound are a duller sounding string and more suited to Jazz , roundwound are much brighter with greater sustain. smile.gif
