I start doing this chromatic exercise
really slowly:
Then i do this Satriani exercise slowly (the bit starting at 00:30)

I slowly build up the speed of this as i get more comfortable.
Then i go back to my first exercise and steadily speed it up as i feel comfortable, and start moving it up and down etc
I find thats enough to get me warmed up well.
