to tune 1/2 step done, simple tune each string to its normal flat
(from thickest to thinnest) strings are tuned E A D G B E
this means if you wanted to tune to what may be referred to as Eb (E flat) standard, just
make your guitar tuner read Eb Ab Db Gb Bb Eb
Or if your guitar tuner reads in sharps...
D# G# C# F# A# D#...
All this really does is loosen(sp?) the strings equally, all strings go down, 1/2 step, it gives the guitar a slightly different sound, and the strings are easier to bend.
let me know if you have any more questions!

ctodd is right, his example is a e-flat tuning, the tuning that you were talking about. Many metal bands are using this tuning since it gives the guitars a bit of extra power, I am using this tuning myself since the late 80's

Tune as Chris said, all strings one fret lower so if its E than its Eb (or D#) and so on...1/2 (half) step down means everything one half step lower...Half step=one fret

alternate tunings are FANTASTIC reasons to purchase more guitars.
This is the main the main reason I have G.A.S., because all I have is just one lonely guitar
I need to get her some friends soon.
