Sound was very interesting !

I like what was happening 3/4 of a solo. Towards the ending phrasing was behind the beat and weak. If you record it one more time same thing it would be spot on. Thanks Ben !

Not really in the mood for collabs, to be honest, or rather spend a lot of time on them, these days, but just decided to do a quick improv on it.

I like melodic choice, like I told you before sounds like Gypsy Jazz with approach patterns and trills

Rhythm wise its 90% or more syncopated rhythm. I would like to hear more straight rhythm in there if possible, for purpose of learning. Let me know if you want to record another one or keep this one.

I am gonna keep it, man. 90% is good because I have always played straight rhythm in the past!

Ok kjutte, I will make comments about it when I publish final mix but you already know there is a lot of syncopated rhythm and very little straight in here so that will be in comments as well

You can drop gain a bit and work on that last section rhythm went off a bit there. Everything else was very good man

It has both types of rhythms in there. If you get chance for more takes try to put more down beat rhythm as this one has more syncopated.
Overall I am pleased with this, good job !!!

You definitely did great job with syncopated rhythm. I was looking for both syncopated and straight rhythm soloing.
See if you can submit another take that includes regular rhythm as well !

Here is my take. Good that I had my acoustic with me on holidays to find some melodic ideas already .

Tried to frequently change between syncopated and some straight passages and hopefully I succeeded in it .

This was very melodic take but also very syncopated take. There were hardly any downbeat type rhythms.
I know that this backing has huge and I mean huge tendency to pull everybody to do syncopated soloing, but you can still try to keep some straight soloing in there

Thanks Pedja. Thats true, syncopated rhythms come easy to this backing. I thought i mixed syncopated and straight notes. Not as long sequences, but notes to each other .. i'm looking forward to your take, will be interesting to see how you do it !!

Rhythm and phrasing was either rushed or behind. Did you compose it or it was improvised?
Record another one because phrasing is all over the place (ahead and behind the beat)

Hmm, I think it has to do with me not knowing how to disable the metronome in Logic >.<

I know you can play in time this is why I was surprised to hear this on and off phrasing !
I dont use Logic but perhaps somebody who uses it could help with that?

No, the metronome wasn't the only problem. Someone here needs to work on his timing appearently. Well I've decided to upload the new take anyway.

This was much better take then first one, seriously man.
First of all timing is spot on here. When I listen to solo by itself only I can hear rhythms clearly with foot tapping for example. Previous one was rushed or slowing down with click, this one is much better.

If you want to correct things in this solo I would say some wrong notes (you could tell where they are), and phrasing in the very last seconds of solo (unclear rhythm figure

Yeah, I tried to do one Fully written part and one fully improvised part. The written part is untill the ascending/descending bend. Everything else is improvised. But I agree completely with the ending and mistakes.

Btw, the second last tone, I somehow managed to stumble on right? That's what messing up the ending I think. With a proper note duration there it would be much better.

Wow, syncopation is something I haven't worked on in the past. I hope that I got the basic idea. If I'm on the right track, the 1st 4 bars here are syncopated, then I'm "on beat" for 4 bars, then 4-bars are somewhat syncopated, and the last 4 are on beat again. I hope that I got that right, and that this is what you're looking for.

The harmonic minor scale was fun to mess around with. I should do some more work to memorize all the 3nps harmonic minor modes (Like Zolt's modal madness lesson). Here, I just picked a few notes from the scale that seemed to fit.

Very nice take Jim.
I will accept it as final take but there are some things you can improve as future reference.
When you were doing straight rhythm you always started good and strong but then later on started adding ties and dots to the notes which turned out to be somewhat syncopated rhythm. I know backing is syncopated and it tends to pull you to pull that way but still I think you did good job with introducing some straight rhythm in there.
Glad you enjoyed Harmonic minor scale. It is definitely fun one to work with especially over Dom7 chord.

It's the first time I upload the first improvisation over the backing, or a totally improvised take at all really I noticed afterwards that I overused syncopated rhythms for the sake of this class, but I got some straight rhythm in there. Is this take ok, or should I redo it?

You are right, this one has a lot more syncopated then straight rhythm. Again I think that was the case among most takes so far. You can keep it or submit another one. Looks like I will have to extend the deadline as there is only couple of submitted takes so far.
