It's exactly the same as doing Classical Grades on Guitar, Piano, Clarinet etc but specifically aimed at Electric Guitar.
As Matt says, it all depends on the reason for taking them. They will certainly help if you want to gain entry to a Music School/College etc!

Speaking of classical grades, I did some of the theory exams, then forgot what id learnt, and it didnt really apply to electric guitar very well

I teach guitar exams to hundreds of children each year, and it has a couple of benefits...as a teacher it gives you a good syllabus to base your teaching on, also as a pupil it gives children a bit more of an initial tie into the instrument. Many children think the guitar is easy, start lessons and discover its not, and are tempted to give up early. Having an impending exam is a good motivator! I would also say as long as you do lots of other playing that you enjoy also, then exams are a good idea and can open doors to a good career.

Exams or assignments in generals help to motivate students to aim for something. Without assignments its day to day playing with no real guidance or goals. It could eventually lead to very little or no organized practice, which results in improvement at much slower rate.

Does these exams cost some money, or they are free?

According to the program I saw in this PDF file this looks like a very good concept.

i just had a look at it.. and to me they do look kinda nice..

I mean.. i think i will use it just to find out what i am "missing" or what i cannot do.. and i think it will give me a good indicator of what i should practice in order for me to progress..

I'm still undecided. I need to put in more hard work and practice before i decide if i do it or not.

well.. actually i wont be doing the exams.. sorry if it sounded like that..

I meant that i will take a look at the different sections and grades and determine what i should practice..

for example, i am now currently looking at section 1: Preliminary Grade..
there are 4 bullets: A through D.

a) C major scale - 1 octave
b ) G pentatonic major scale - 1 octave
c) A natural minor scale - 1 octave
d) E blues scale - 1 octave

I will then go through each bullet.. Am i able to do a).. yes i am.. can i do b )? yes i can.. can i do c)? well.. actually i am a bit uncertain, so i will probably need to take an extra look at that one.. what about d)? i can do that..

so this will give me some clarifications on where my skills are lacking.. of course if i find a bullet i am not that good in (lets say i cannot do 7th chords (section 2, grade 2, bullet a)), i will then start by looking at some theory.. why is it called a 7th chord.. how do i construct a 7th chords, and before i know it i will be able to do all 7th chords..
