Hey guys i've just got myself windows 7 64bit, which doesnt like my Pandora PX5d- so i decided to get myself a sound card and use the pandora just for practise instead of as a usb audio interface.

So is there anyone out there using windows 7 for recording? If so what card are you using (im looking for a pci card as opposed to usb) i was thinking about the emu 0404.

The microsoft website says that it is compatible for windows 7 64bit but i cant find andy details on the emu website that supports that claim

Wish I knew DR, I'm still on XP 32bit

As was i, i was actually multi-booting Vista 32bit (for general use), Vista 64bit (for gaming) and xp 32bit for recording. Everything ran okay with xp so if needs be i'll dual boot 7 and xp (in fact that'll probably be my solution until developers have more time to work with 7/64bit). Either way- windows 7 is great

A word of advice. Stick with 32bit for the interim on whatever platform or OS. You are asking for a world of hurt until the audio world catches up with 64bit. This is as much a software as it is a hardware issue.

yeah, its not windows thats the problem, its the 64 bit...im sure korg will release a patch or something to make the drivers work...

i have been using windows 7 86 bit for a month or two now, and my digitech rp500 and my toneport both work better than ever.

I read that Windows 7 has an XP Mode as long as your CPU supports virtualisation technology. No need for dual-boot then as can run all your apps within the same system concurrently via RPC calls or whatever it is they use now.

I'd disagree with this statement when it comes to Mac. Windows and Linux still hasn't perfected 64bit, but OS X did. Every 2006 Mac systems and up can actually run 64 bit just by upgrading the RAM. In fact, OS X conquered this feet so well that they are moving on to 128bit.

Cheers i'll have a look into that, i know how to run programs in compatiblity mode but not how an xp mode would apply to installing drivers so this'll need some reading.



I would hope that they'll bring 64bit drivers, but i also waited for their vista 32bit drivers which didn't happen, i can't believe they completly missed the time-window for that. Though perhaps in that particular case Vista was to blame and not Korg.

Yep. You are confusing an OS issue ... with software and hardware issues. Apples and oranges. The operating system hasn't been the limiting factor in quite a while.

[EDIT] >> Anyway. The only company that I know of that may have 64-bit drivers for a high end card somewhere this lifetime is Sonic Core (formerly known as Creamware). They already have a Windows 7 compatible release candidate for 32bit. My next purchase? This very same update for my Creamware/Sonic Core Pulsar II which is PCI.

I'd suggest that you don't move to Win7 fully just yet - dual boot for the Pandora.

It may take a while - at least SP1 of Win 7 - before it is proven to be stable for audio and before most manufacturers have dlls etc out for it.

At the mo there are a number of issues reported for Win 7 re audio/sequencers etc. Given that it's only just released these are generally only really just surfacing. This isn't to say that 7 isn't better than Vista generally - I'm sure it is (not hard really) but there is a lag in the system and so wait a bit.

Also I don't really see the 0404 as being a step forward for you.

My advice is to stay 32bit for now. You will have much less problems, both hardware and (specially) software.

I've had Win7 running on dualboot since i got invited to the betatest-program, and i think it's allaround the best Windows yet.
But still, i rarely use it since i had so much problems getting my soundcard (EMU Tracker Pre) and different VST/VSTi's to work properly in a DAW.

So, i'm with Ivan on this one. Stick with XP 32bit for the time being.

Thanks for the advice guys i'll resurrect xp and dual boot until sp1 (can't wait to get all of my needs from 7 though, I'm really enjoying it so far)

Emu seem to have 64bit drivers for Vista and XP. I'm only running XP 32 though so I can't comment on their reliability.
