I have couple of times been on great gigs where the audience eventhough everyone loves the music they can't just get in to the show if you know what I mean. Though it doesn't usually happen in a headbanging gig. I've just been wondering what is the magic that makes some bands so absolutely awesome live? Some bands are great live but they just lack the magic if you know what I mean and if you don't know, here are some examples taken from tours of my favourite band. OH yeah "Imaginations Through the Looking Glass" is totally the most epic live DVD ever!
And here the crowd is chanting the chorus long after the song was "over"

Yeah I hope they come to Finland on their tour, otherwise I have to head to Sweden :/ Great place though I'm still wondering (and probably forever will) what is it in these songs that drive the audience so high. (Well I'm atm singing here and listening to the Bard's song for the 10th time)

The live magic depends on a lot of things imho:
Sometimes it's the frontman who is able to get a great connection to the crowd which makes the gig at least 10 times better. The frontman can make the diffrence between a good show and a great show!
Then ofcourse the songs need to be good^^

I trust you Haven't had a chance though, strange that I haven't been on a gig of my favorite band, eventhough I have been on gigs of bands which are not even on my top 10 list

Awesome videos. The second one was hilarious when they just kept on singing I think if the frontman gets a good connection with the audience, and have a good setlist with the right songs at the right time, that will make a great difference

+1 to Zakk and Sollesnes. I've seen some concerts where the band and the audience didn't really conncect, and I think both sides realize this really quick and the show becomes more like a routine thing, where the band will just play all the songs. Some frontmen can really motivate the audience and make them wild. Billie Joe Armstrong from Green Day is quite good at that, Roy Khan from Kamelot knew exactly what to do and say when I saw them last week, and BGs Hansi is quite charismatic as well. It all comes down to this.

So we can conclude that the "thing" which makes some bands awesome live is CHARISMA And ofc the songs must be good. Thanks ppl just wanted to hear your thoughts, and share those videos.

That's for sure. Carisma can move mountains. Just check "Live at the Budokan" dvd by Skid Row. Sebastian is so far of his best night singing but he do what he want with the crowd
