Full Version: Attitude Revisited

Hey guys! With all the threads on how you have to have attitude to play guitar, here is a video I stumbled on from one of the most attitude driven showmen out there. It's probably the only guitar lesson he'll ever do. (Hmmmm. Maybe it's the only lesson he "should" ever do biggrin.gif .) ...but, he does make some good points about living life first. It will translate to your guitar and everything else...

Not too crazy about his taste in guitars, but hey, it's the Nuge'. Live your life! Play your guitar! cool.gif

Edit: Had to add a couple of smiley faces to make sure you all didn't take this thread too seriously. biggrin.gif

The Nuge is definitely all about attitude smile.gif By the way, did he have a hit other than "Cat Scratch Fever"?

You pretty much covered them all. He mentions in the vid that he is 46. He is now 61 and still rockin. I love Ted for a lot of reason that have nothing to do with music. I follow him on twitter and when he decides to tweet he is hilarious while being serious.

Attitude is quite important, especially on stage. You really have to "own it" when you are performing live. If you go on stage and feel intimidated, it will show and it's like blood in the water and sharks. The audience will not respond kindly. They have taken time out of their day to make it to the venue, paid for a drink and they want to be entertained. If the musicians looks scared, the audience feels ripped off.

So if you are new to performing, be mindful of your stage presence and convey confidence even if you have to fake it. Don't just stand there and look at your shoes. Don't stare at your fretboard the entire time. Move around, no need to jump and do the splits, but move around as if you feel at home and are owning the space. The more confident you act, the more confident you will feel and stage jitters will melt away.

Here is a vid from my days playing the band CAUSTIC THOUGHT. We didn't to acrobatics, but we always tried just enjoy ouselves during a show. I had big puffy hair in this band so I get a kick out of watching this.
