Guys and girls

Since we all talk about tightness and timing in our rhythm playing, I have decided to start a new collab based on this very idea

Here's what you have to do:

Step 1 - Come up with a riff/ rhythmic sequence in the key of A minor
Step 2 - Record it over the backing track below - yes, it's the one with missing bars No cheating though

The tempo is 75 BPM and you can get a hold of the track's pulse and tempo if you tap your foot to the ground while playing. No cheating here And by cheating, I mean, copying the recording and placing it over the part where there are no drums.

As long as we all stick to the key and the tempo, I will combine all the takes and create a massive groove jam and each of you guys will have a part in thin air, without any drums behind it, so take care and record with as good a timing as you can, over any of the parts where there are no drums.

The deadline is October 20th

I tried this yesturday with a rhythm from a song that I know, This at the very least is great practice for keeping solid time, it gets tougher towards the end but I thought I kept time pretty well. I recommend everyone try this even if they dont enter the collab,It really is great practice for keeping the rhythm tight.Thanks Cos!

Interesting... Does seem like good practice, maybe I should join this. Is it OK if i use A aeolian for example? And do I record over the whole 10 minutes?

This is too hard...

Well, if it feels too hard towards the end (where I know a lot of the actual bars are missing ) record up to the point where you're not feeling comfortable anymore

What an awesome idea!! This reminds me of something we do, semi-frequently, in my funk band.... where we're on a groove, and then we all drop out and someone take a fill over that, and PASS that fill/riff section around to all of the players, and then we ALL jump back in on the one (usually, or wherever the riff starts)!

It's a great practice for any band, but look out live.... if even one person is off at any point, it shows!!
I don't have my guitar out currently, but I'm near the end of the collab track....it gets so sparse!! Here comes a challenge!! I might use this exact track, and speed it up or down, in the future for warmup routines. I like warmups that also improve skills, like timing, fretboard knowledge, picking, vibrato, legato, etc and on and on and on.

Hey Dieter You should play over the entire track not only in the breaks, the idea is that you must remain constant while playing regardless if there's a drum beat or not

Well, well, well, my timely tight timing amigos! Here we are with the final mix! I want to congratulate everyone for coming up with nice ideas and good timing!

I tried to create an atmosphere using parts from each of you and cooling them down with my own contribution

So, in order of appearance:

bleez - MASSIVE I liked the riffage and I thought that since it started so well, I should begin the whole thing with it!

I also added a little JUST a little delay to make everything even bigger!

JensH - your riffs remind me of Van Halen a bit so great to continue bleez's massiveness. The thing that I noticed was the fact that you rushed a tiny bit here and there, nothing too serious but

Grace - Tight take missie! It generally has very good flow, but I think there were parts in the whole take where you felt a bit uncertain regarding what you want to play

Dieter - your take is exactly what I had in mind to finish the whole thing - it sounded just like someone playing angry guitar in a room with some reverb! Dieter, you had some good ideas sprinkled in your whole take, so I had a nice part to choose from. I think that in the near future, you should focus on one riff idea and try to develop it by moving a note up or down, thus creating variation, or omitting some notes.

Well guys, since the German is not here Why not think of the next collab theme together - would you guys be up for a video collab this time? Or should we stick to audio?
